General Statement:
The Fleet Science Center’s Staff Accountant supports the Fleet Mission and Visitor Experience Philosophy by performing day-to-day accounting functions with a focus on accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, inventory, and audit schedule preparation. They also act as a backup to the Controller and all other accounting positions when needed.
Reports to: Controller
Primary Duties and Responsibilities, including mental requirements of position:
- Maintains accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Responsible for all A/P processing using our AvidXchange System and Fund Accounting Software.
- Prepare annual 1099 reporting and quarterly form 941 reconciliations.
- Process all uploads from Galaxy- (POS) platform to fund Accounting System.
- Responsible A/R processing.
- Reconcile monthly inventory and prepare the necessary journal entries.
- Process semi-monthly payroll, and upload into Accounting System.
- Enter bank items and process all monthly bank reconciliations.
- Prepare and file monthly and quarterly sales tax payments and filings.
- Maintain accurate Fixed Asset records including the proper recording of capitalized assets and depreciation.
- Prepare and/or review reconciliation of balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
- Assist with month-end financial statement preparation to ensure management and board committees have accurate financial reports as scheduled.
- Review and post adjusting entries and reclass entries.
- Assist Controller and Staff Accountant in coordinating / preparing annual financial audit work papers for timely submission to outside auditors.
- Assist the Controller and Staff Accountant in other duties or projects as assigned.
- Responsible for being knowledgeable of safety and emergency plan manual procedures.

Physical Requirements of this Position:

Qualifications
Experience, education, or skills required of the incumbent in this position:
- Minimum 4 years related experience in accounting/general bookkeeping including experience with cash receipts and account/general ledger reconciliations.
- Minimum of Associate’s degree in accounting or finance is preferred (years of experience may substitute)
- Previous work experience in a non-profit organization is a plus; knowledge of accounting principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Proven analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
- Superior organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with Abila MIP Fund Accounting is desired.
- Proficiency and experience using Excel and Word for Windows is mandatory
Salary : $69,000 - $72,000
