What are the responsibilities and job description for the Secondary Science Teacher position at Flint Hills Christian School?
JOB SUMMARY
- Instruction: Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging science lessons in line with both academic standards and Christian values. Subjects include biology, physical science, environmental science and/or anatomy/physiology. Primary grade levels are 7th-10th.
- Curriculum Development: Assist in designing curriculum and assessments that integrate scientific inquiry with a biblical worldview, encouraging students to explore God’s creation through the lens of faith and scientific understanding.
- Classroom Management: Create a safe, respectful, and disciplined classroom environment that promotes learning and spiritual growth.
- Student Engagement: Encourage students’ curiosity, participation, and independent thinking, guiding them in hands-on experiments, projects, and group activities.
- Spiritual Leadership: Serve as a Christian role model, supporting students' spiritual growth and encouraging them to apply their faith to their study of science.
- Collaboration: Work with other faculty and staff to ensure alignment with school-wide initiatives, including interdisciplinary projects and community outreach.
- Professional Development: Attend faculty meetings, training sessions, and other professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in both science education and faith integration.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Science Education, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field.
- Certification: Valid teaching certification for the applicable grade levels.
- Experience: Prior experience teaching science at the middle or high school level, ideally in a Christian or private school setting.
- Faith Commitment: A committed Christian who can support and uphold the school’s Statement of Faith and core values.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of scientific concepts, lab safety, and effective teaching strategies; excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
