Service Description
- The Flipside Afterschool Program partners with middle schools in Marion County to provide afterschool services (free of cost) to students with a programmatic focus on tutoring, mentoring, and activities promoting social and emotional wellness with the goal of better engaging students academically. Interventions include one-on-one and small-group tutoring, homework groups, access to physical education and STEAM activities with a commitment to helping students gain independence and confidence in their ability to learn.

Service Term Information
- Term of Service: 300 Hours from January 6, 2025-August 1, 2025.
- January-May: Program Assistants serve approximately 20 hours a week (M-F, 2:30-6:15 or 3:00-6:15)
- June-July: Schedule is flexible if the member has consistently met previous hourly benchmarks.

Essential Functions
- Members serve a minimum of 300 hours. The term of service is 7 months; October 2024-August 2025.
- Members support Flipside by operating as a Program Assistant during program hours.
- Each member will be responsible for a group of 5-10 students during program hours.
- Members will also be responsible for leading enrichment activities as planned by the Site Coordinator.
- Other duties include supervising students at mealtimes and during enrichment activities.
- Members are required to participate in pre-service and on-going training.
- Members are required to attend 2 Days of Service throughout the 7 months of service.
- Members are required to complete an Individual Service Project during the months of June and July of their service term.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. High School Seniors in good academic standing may be considered, if they are 17 by September 2024.
- Must be a US Citizen or permanent resident.
- Members have ongoing access to a vulnerable population (young students). Enrollment in the program is contingent upon the results of a National Service Criminal History Check. (FBI Fingerprinting, National Record Check, National Sex Offender Registry Check and State Criminal Background Check included.)
- Ability to work well with fellow members, Flipside and United Way staff, and school-site teachers.
Compensation
- $3,366 yearly living allowance, paid semi-monthly throughout the service term. Paid bi-weekly in $340 installments throughout the service term.
- $1,565 Education Award
- Awarded upon successful completion of the 11-month service term. Can be used to pay tuition, student loan repayment, or for dependents if the member is over 55 at the time of service.
