Farm Manager / Farmer

Flora Bella Farm is a well-established organic farm with over 30 years under cultivation, located in Three Rivers, California. Spanning 10 acres, we are widely recognized for the production of high-quality, organically grown produce. Our farm has been a fixture at the Wednesday and Saturday Santa Monica Farmers Market and supplies many restaurants in Los Angeles, maintaining a strong presence in the community.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Head Farm Manager to join our team and work alongside the ownership as we continue our legacy. The ideal candidate will possess a robust work ethic, an entrepreneurial spirit, and exemplary leadership and customer service skills to manage a diverse range of crops, a dedicated team farming team, and customer orders.

Responsibilities:

• Crop Planning and Management: Develop and implement detailed crop plans, including strategic planting schedules, crop rotations, and harvest timelines to optimize yields and ensure soil health.
• Field Operations: Direct all field activities, such as planting, irrigation, weeding, fertilization, and pest management, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness. Actively work alongside the crew to set high standards of productivity and quality while managing weather-related risks.
• Equipment Maintenance: Oversee farm equipment maintenance, including tractors, implements, and irrigation systems, ensuring proper functionality and safety for optimal operations.
• Budgeting and Financial Management: Collaborate with the ownership to develop and monitor the farm budget, aiming to maximize profitability and minimize waste across all operations.
• Personnel Management: Recruit, train, and supervise farm workers and seasonal employees, fostering a productive and cohesive team culture. Leverage the expertise of long-term team members to enhance overall farm operations.
• Harvest and Distribution: Coordinate harvest schedules, manage post-harvest handling, and oversee distribution channels (farmers' markets and wholesale accounts) to ensure timely delivery of fresh produce to customers.
• Organic Certification Compliance: Ensure adherence to organic certification standards and regulations, maintaining meticulous records to support compliance requirements.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in organic farming or sustainable agriculture
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Ability to lift over 50 lbs
• Fluent in English and conversational in Spanish
• In-depth knowledge of organic farming principles, practices, and certification standards
• Proficiency in farm equipment operation and maintenance
• Ability to thrive independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• Flexibility to work long hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed

Compensation:

• Salary: $50,000 per year
• On-site housing provided
• Opportunities for profit sharing
