Job Summary

A fast-paced immigration practice seeks an in-office bilingual (English/Spanish) legal assistant to assist paralegals and other law firm staff with various tasks. We are hiring at least one candidate for this position.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Completes tasks assigned by paralegal in an appropriate and timely manner;
  • Assembles immigration packets. To include, printing, scanning, hole punching, making copies, paginating, inserting exhibits;
  • Uploads completed packets to case management software;
  • Prepares packet for mailing by completing mail slips and placing in mail;
  • Enters clear and correct notes in case management software;
  • Collects documents from clients;
  • Scans collected client documents and uploads to case management software;
  • Submits completed packets to paralegal, paralegal supervisor(s), and/or attorneys;
  • Prints assembled PDFs;
  • Fingerprint clients for FBI checks;
  • Prepares files for hearings;
  • Calls court to follow-up on motions and various questions;
  • Prints or copies documents for law firm staff as needed;
  • Attends hearing preparation meetings and serves as notetaker and/or interpreter if paralegal is not available;
  • Communicates with Paralegal to provide inquiry responses and other requested information;
  • Prepares forms for Paralegals when requested;
  • Update practice management software with all client information and case progress;
  • Translation of documents from Spanish to English;
  • Interpret for appointments from Spanish to English and English to Spanish.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Fluency in both English and Spanish (conversing, reading, and writing).
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Office experience preferred.
  • Solid work history.
  • Have a passion to help underserved populations and to help people from all walks of life.
  • Strong interest in an immigration-based practice.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Adobe PDF experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail and customer service.
  • Strong organization, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt easily to changing circumstances.
