Job Summary
A fast-paced immigration practice seeks an in-office bilingual (English/Spanish) legal assistant to assist paralegals and other law firm staff with various tasks. We are hiring at least one candidate for this position.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Completes tasks assigned by paralegal in an appropriate and timely manner;
- Assembles immigration packets. To include, printing, scanning, hole punching, making copies, paginating, inserting exhibits;
- Uploads completed packets to case management software;
- Prepares packet for mailing by completing mail slips and placing in mail;
- Enters clear and correct notes in case management software;
- Collects documents from clients;
- Scans collected client documents and uploads to case management software;
- Submits completed packets to paralegal, paralegal supervisor(s), and/or attorneys;
- Prints assembled PDFs;
- Fingerprint clients for FBI checks;
- Prepares files for hearings;
- Calls court to follow-up on motions and various questions;
- Prints or copies documents for law firm staff as needed;
- Attends hearing preparation meetings and serves as notetaker and/or interpreter if paralegal is not available;
- Communicates with Paralegal to provide inquiry responses and other requested information;
- Prepares forms for Paralegals when requested;
- Update practice management software with all client information and case progress;
- Translation of documents from Spanish to English;
- Interpret for appointments from Spanish to English and English to Spanish.
Qualifications and Skills
- Fluency in both English and Spanish (conversing, reading, and writing).
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Office experience preferred.
- Solid work history.
- Have a passion to help underserved populations and to help people from all walks of life.
- Strong interest in an immigration-based practice.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Adobe PDF experience preferred but not required.
- Strong attention to detail and customer service.
- Strong organization, time management, and prioritization skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt easily to changing circumstances.
