Job Description
The Librarian I - Training Librarian manages the library’s ongoing training program, provides staff instruction, and assists in the operation of the Systems Services department.
Essential Functions:
- Provides exceptional customer service to external and internal customers.
- Coordinates the library’s staff training program. Works with Library Director to identify training needs, selects resources for ongoing learning, develops staff training events, and provides direct training to staff.
- Assists with orientation and training of new staff members.
- Participates in regular shifts at public service desks in each department and branch, to maintain working knowledge of services, procedures, and staff training needs.
- Develops and maintains proficiency with all library technology, including ILS, calendar and meeting room system, PC management software, digital collections, etc.
- Assists Systems Services department in troubleshooting, replacing, installing, and configuring equipment and software as needed.
Non-Essential Functions:
- Participates in special projects and assists in other library departments and branches as needed.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of library service trends, community needs, and staff competencies. Incorporates this knowledge into training program.
- Assists with Help Desk calls as needed.
- Works evenings and weekends as required.
- Performs all other related duties as required.
Qualifications: Education and Work Experience
- Master’s Degree in Library Science from an A.L.A. accredited graduate program; 1 year of relevant professional experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge and skills
- Must possess or qualify for a Professional Librarian’s Certificate from the South Carolina State Library.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new skills, technologies, and procedures.
- Proficient with computers, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, and office equipment.
- Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license.
