Job Description

The Librarian II – Information Services Supervisor supervises all operations of the Information Services department.

Essential Functions:

  • Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates Information Services staff; supervises the provision of Information services to the public; ensures staff coverage of service desk.
  • Supervises operations of study rooms, Law Library, and art gallery.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to external and internal customers. Responds to and resolves patron questions or concerns.
  • Shelves and organizes materials, updates patron accounts, and assists patrons in finding materials. Provides reader’s advisory and book recommendations.
  • Assists patrons with public computers, online catalog, and other library equipment and resources.
  • Conducts and assists with programs and outreach activities as needed.
  • Trains Information Services staff in reference, research, and customer service techniques. Assigns and monitors departmental administrative tasks such as scheduling, inter-library loans, book donations, special collections, etc.
  • Requests supplies for programs and services; maintains inventory and organization of equipment and supplies.
  • Enforces library Code of Conduct; works with security officers, library administration, and staff to maintain safe and welcoming environment.

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Assists in the South Carolina Room and other library departments as needed.
  • Serves as HQ Manager-on-Duty when needed.
  • Maintains current knowledge of, and shares with staff, current library service trends and related developments.
  • Works evenings and weekends as required.
  • Participates in special projects as needed. Performs all other related duties as required.

Qualifications: Education and Work Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited graduate program; 2 years of relevant professional experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge and skills.
  • Must possess or qualify for a Professional Librarian’s Certificate from the South Carolina State Library.
  • Proficient with computers, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, and office equipment.
  • Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license.

  • Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, carry, move and lift 10 lb. objects regularly.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee must have the ability to travel up to 5%.
