Summary Description
The Accounting Manager (AM) is responsible for successfully leading an accounting team to ensure excellent customer service, team accountability, accurate and timely financials to the clients and overall team profitability. Responsibilities include managing the accounting team and client base. The focus is on accountability of deliverables to clients, ensuring customer financials are accurate and customer service is stellar. The responsibility is also to lead your accounting team and ensure the successful completion of accounts payable, payroll and related journal entries, postings to general ledger accounts, period end processing and overall customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Client Relationship Management
Serve as the primary AS contact for assigned clients, ensuring all AS services are delivered effectively and efficiently. Consult with clients on AS-related matters, including compliance, financial reports, accounting procedures and service improvements. Conduct regular client check-ins and satisfaction reviews, resolving issues and providing solutions proactively. Utilize quality improvement processes to document procedures and to improve procedures.
Service Delivery & Operations
Oversee AS services such as accounts payable, general ledger, intercompany reconciliations, accounts receivable, treasury services and custom reporting. Ensure AS processes are compliant with GAAP and company policies. Manage the integration of AS systems and partnered platforms, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting packages for each client.
Team Leadership & Management
Lead, mentor and develop the AS team members, assign tasks, conduct performance reviews, and set development goals. Ensure the team meets client service-level agreements (SLAs) and maintains high-quality service standards. Participate in the recruitment process of new team members for the AS department. Provide training and guidance on new policies and procedures, ensuring the team is up to date on AS best practices and KPI's are met. Foster a continuous learning environment and professional growth within the team.
Compliance & Risk Management
Stay informed on changes in federal, state, and local accounting regulations and laws to ensure client compliance.
Implement and manage accurate AS processes for clients, including but not limited to audits, reconciliations, year-end filings with CPA, 1099s, and sales tax filings. Address any potential compliance risks and proactively resolve issues.
Process Improvement & Strategy
Identify opportunities to improve AS service delivery and streamline operations. Lead or participate in AS projects aimed at enhancing client satisfaction and operational efficiency. Collaborate with senior leadership to align AS strategies with company goals. Advise and aim to provide platinum customer service to clients and employees enabling proper utilization and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Training & Client Support
Conduct training sessions on AS policies, procedures, and compliance for both clients and internal AS staff. Assist with onboarding/offboarding clients to ensure smooth integration into AS services. Provide ongoing support and guidance to clients on AS best practices via weekly client recaps and regularly scheduled partnership meetings.
Qualifications
Education
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required
- Experience in or certification in AS programs (SAGE Intacct, Excel, QuickBooks, R365) is a plus.
Experience
- 5 years of progressive bookkeeping experience, with at least 2 years in a management or client services role
- Strong knowledge of both Federal and State accounting principles and laws.
- Experience with auditable ERP, workflows and internal controls.

Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office environment and requires regular use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and copy machines. Some travel to client sites may be required. Flexibility in working hours may occasionally be necessary.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to sit for extended periods and work on a computer. Occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds may be necessary.
