Summary:
Uses a variety of collection techniques to collect outstanding balances on patient accounts.
Detailed responsibilities:
- Reviews and notifies patients of delinquent accounts by mail and/or phone to solicit payment and/or provide payment plan options.
- Contacts patients to identify and resolve account collection problems for maximum collection results.
- Refers grossly delinquent accounts to collection agency.
- Maintains record of collections activities, status of accounts, daily and monthly reports, and/or other reports required or requested.
- Adjusts accounts appropriately and applies financial hardship, bad debt, or collection agency status.
- Works accounts receivable patient report and maintains aging lower than 10%.
- Communicates with other office staff regarding patient balances or other collection related issues.
Requirements:
- One year of experience working with medical collections, medical terminology, procedures/CPT, diagnosis codes, and insurance strongly preferred.
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
- Basic proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Able to communicate effectively in English and Spanish both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
