OUR PROGRAM
Our program provides a safe stable home environment for male youths in foster care who have experienced trauma in their lives.
Our state licensed Children’s group home for foster children is located in the Largo area in Pinellas County and provides care and mentoring to 10 youths in foster care who live, play and heal in our large residential home.

POSITION SUMMARY & PHILOSOPHY
The Recreational Mentor position works directly with our youth providing supervision, guidance, teaching and direct care throughout the scheduled shift assigned with a priority on age appropriate activities both at home and in the community, as well as, mentoring to build trusting bonds between our staff and youth to provide encourage a safe nurturing environment for the youth in our program.

Weekends: Saturday & Sunday

9am-9pm
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Working with our youth includes and requires interacting with our youth including activities indoors and outdoors. Outdoor activities often scheduled with our youth include basketball, soccer, play at the park, etc.
This position requires the ability to lift up to 50lbs and the ability to participate in physical/outdoor activities. Also, the ability to provide physical intervention as prescribed by approved professional crisis management models to protect the youths safety is necessary at times.
DRIVING REQUIREMENTS
“ Important”
This position does include and require at times transporting youth in company vehicles, and at times, using personal car for company business.
For this reason, our program’s commercial auto Insurance requires a good driving record over the previous past three (3) years.
The definition of a good driving record would include no more than 2 driving violations, NO at-fault accidents, NO DUIs, NO suspended licenses within the last 3 years.
BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENTS
Must pass Florida Level 2 background screening.
Must have a Local Law Record from local Sheriff's Department free of prohibited offenses.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
This position requires both engaging in recreational activities with our youth and providing mentoring and care to our youth.
A description of both recreation, activities, and mentoring/care requirements are listed below for this position.
Recreational Activities- Ability to work with youth and engage them in fun physically moderate -high exertion level activities and projects indoors and outdoors at our children’s home or in the community.

Mentoring- Ability to supervise, provide guidance and care for youth that have experienced trauma in their young lives. Mentoring youth at our Children’s home or in the community can include:
*Supervising youth at home and in the community to ensure safe, nurturing, abuse-free environment.
*Assist in teaching and reinforcing youth self-confidence and self-awareness while building supportive relationships.
*Provide structure and be a positive role model for youth
*Provide and supervise youths’ activities utilizing creative freedom and imagination
*Teach and supervise youth’s daily hygiene and care in the home.
* Utilize strategies and methodologies of program’s professional crisis management system in managing youth challenging behaviors.
*Provide guidance and reinforcement of you at- risk lessons taught to youth
*Proving guidance and teaching youth age appropriate life skills.
*Provide guidance and direct interaction to manage youth challenging behaviors to ensure safety.
*Participate in group and 1-on-1 time interactions with youth to hear and give guidance to their concerns and needs.
*Assist with school work.
* Assist with light housekeeping, and cooking for kids during the weekend.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position has specific requirements set forth by the Florida Department of Children & Families (DCF), they include:
*Minimum of either a High school degree or GED.
*Minimum of 2 years working with youth in a residential child welfare setting, facility or child placement agency.
BACKGROUND SCREENINGS
MUST MUST MUST be able to successfully pass a DCF level 2 background screening
Good driving record preferred.
