Position Overview:
The Outreach Medical Assistant is a dynamic, dual-role position that combines clinical and administrative responsibilities within the office and community outreach efforts. The role focuses on providing exceptional patient care, supporting healthcare initiatives, and promoting health education to underserved populations in the community.
Key Responsibilities:
In-Office Responsibilities:
- Assist healthcare providers with clinical duties, including obtaining vital signs, recording patient histories, and preparing patients for examinations or procedures.
- Administer medications or vaccines as directed by healthcare providers, following proper protocols.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in electronic health systems (EHR).
- Ensure exam rooms are stocked, cleaned, and prepared for daily operations.
- Educate patients on prescribed treatments, medications, and follow-up care.
- Respond to patient inquiries and schedule appointments.
Community Outreach Responsibilities:
- Participate in community health initiatives, such as health fairs, screenings, vaccination drives, and educational workshops.
- Conduct basic clinical assessments during outreach events (e.g., blood pressure checks, glucose monitoring).
- Educate community members on preventive health measures, available resources, and healthcare services.
- Collaborate with local organizations to identify healthcare needs and establish connections with underserved populations.
- Distribute educational materials and facilitate access to care by connecting individuals to clinic services.
- Provide culturally sensitive and respectful communication to build trust with diverse community groups.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
- Current BLS/CPR certification.
- Experience in both clinical and community outreach settings is preferred.
- Bilingual Preferred - Languages: Spanish, Creole, French.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to balance dual responsibilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and community members.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and basic office software.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for community outreach activities.
