Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineering Construction Estimator to accurately assess costs for civil engineering and construction projects. A key requirement for this role is a strong proficiency in HCSS HeavyBid, the industry-leading software for estimating and bid management. This role involves reviewing project plans, preparing detailed cost estimates, and collaborating with project teams to ensure competitive and accurate bids. Key Responsibilities:
- Review project plans, blueprints, and specifications to prepare accurate cost estimates for civil engineering projects, including roads, bridges, utilities, and other infrastructure projects.
- Perform quantity take-offs and determine material, labor, and equipment costs.
- Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Analyze project risks and identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining project quality and schedule.
- Prepare and submit detailed and competitive estimates to clients, contractors, and project teams.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and the estimating team, to ensure accurate and timely estimates.
- Review and update cost estimates as the project evolves, ensuring they reflect any changes to scope or specifications.
- Maintain a data base of historical cost data for future reference and comparisons.
- Prepare cost comparison reports, change order documentation, and final project cost reports.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, material costs, and regulations to ensure accurate estimating practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 3 years of experience in construction estimating, with a focus on civil engineering projects.
- Proficiency in estimating and takeoff software (HCSS Heavybid / Bluebeam Revu) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Work, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering construction processes, including materials, methods, and cost estimation techniques.
- Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills,
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of local building codes, regulations, and construction standards is a plus.
- Experience working with public sector clients (local government, transportation departments, etc.) is preferred.
