The School Support Aide provides student supervision and support to the learning environment of the school.

Qualifications

  • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memoranda
  • Write simple correspondence
  • Present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, staff, and parents effectively
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Able to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Work effectively and positively with students, staff, and parents
  • Exhibit patience, flexibility, fair-mindedness, and sensitivity to students and families from diverse heritages, lifestyles, and value systems
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
  • Able to perform duties with an awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education policies

Education, Licensure, & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of sixty (60) hours of college credit, preferred
  • Illinois Professional Educator License with Stipulations, preferred
  • Experience in school setting, preferred
  • Experience working with children, preferred

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Provide student supervision in the hallways, common areas, lunchroom, and other areas as identified
  • Implement daily assignments as designed by the building administration and teaching staff
  • Manage student behavior
  • Support the implementation of behavior intervention plans as needed
  • Demonstrate effective behavior management strategies including redirection of inappropriate behavior
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

  • Utilization of resources from other work units within the school district is required to perform the job’s functions
  • Generally, the job requires bending, carrying, climbing, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking along with light physical exertion
  • Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs.
  • Intervene in student altercations

Working Conditions

  • Loud environment at a standard acceptable level
  • Extremes of temperature and humidity
  • Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases

Term Of Employment

  • 10 months, 178 days, 7 hours per day (7:30 am - 3:00 pm)
  • Hourly/Non-Exempt

Evaluation:

  • Per Collective Bargaining Agreement

Salary Range:

  • Per Collective Bargaining Agreement ($17.75-$21.55)

FLSA Status:

  • Hourly/Non-Exempt
