SUMMARY
Fluent Cannabis is looking for an HR Generalist for our Chestertown, NY, Cultivation and Manufacturing facility. The Human Resource Generalist will run the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department, including hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay, benefits, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices. In addition to day-to-day HR responsibilities, the candidate must have a strong employee relations background. This position will play a key role in the success of the organization by providing a welcoming onboarding experience, handling employee relations issues, performance management, and implementing HR best practices.
The ideal candidate will bring previous HR expertise and be hands-on, self-motivated, team-oriented, organized, and thrive in a fast-paced dynamic startup environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Recruits, interviews, and facilitates hiring qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
- Conducts or acquires background checks and employment eligibility verifications.
- Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
- Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs, including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
- Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, recommends best practices, and reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization's HRIS and talent management systems.
SKILLS
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Working understanding of human resource principles, practices and procedures.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field and/or equivalent experience.
- At least three years related experience required.
- SHRM-CP credential preferred.
- Union experience preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Per state law, must be at least 21 years of age.
Must successfully complete a comprehensive background check.
Must pass a drug screening.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a professional office located within a cultivation and manufacturing environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This position regularly requires long hours and frequent weekend work.
TRAVEL
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
