FMRS is excited to announce a position on our new Adult Mobile Crisis Response Team. We are seeking an Adult Mobile Crisis Specialist. The Mobile Crisis Specialist – Adult provides mobile crisis interventions for individuals experiencing emotional, behavioral or substance use related crisis in the community. Including those individuals with initial episode of psychosis or other severe mental illness (SMI). The Crisis Specialist participates in the crisis response team dyad, which includes a Peer Recovery Specialist.

This position collaborates to promote a team culture that recognizes, understands, and respects each individual's point of view, experiences, and preferences. Responsible to maximize individual choice, self-determination, and decision-making in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of individuals, families, and team staff; acts as a liaison with community resources; carries out rehabilitation and support functions; and assists in treatment, education, support, and consultation to families, and crisis intervention under clinical supervision. Although this position is primarily designated for the adult population, the Mobile Crisis Specialist will be cross trained to respond to both adult and child crisis calls.

JOB DUTIES:

1. Responds within the community to individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use crises, utilizes crisis de-escalation techniques in order to maintain people in their homes and communities as appropriate.

2. Provides face to face and phone crisis support/services to individuals via the crisis line, walk-ins, or on scheduled crisis visits.

3. Answers all incoming calls quickly with standard greeting and screening protocol.

4. Provides crisis screening/assessment/support visit within an hour of the crisis call unless approved by supervisor.

5. Completes crisis safety plans on individuals when clinically indicated.

6. Works different shifts and provides on call coverage for mobile crisis.

7. Provides hand off communication to staff when an open consumer accesses crisis services for support.

8. Completes follow-up activities with assigned consumers.

9. Link and refer individuals to resources for treatment, family support, education, housing and local or online support groups.

10. Complete assessments and track progress to maintain client engagement in treatment.

11. May facilitate supportive groups to support improved health outcomes.

12. Maintains schedule of activities in Carelogic, monitors alerts in Carelogic (failed activities, activities not statused, etc.) and resolves issues daily.

13. Collaborates with hospital emergency room staff and FMRS certifiers to directly engage high risk, high need clients and families in order to identify early signs of treatment non-compliance or at-risk behaviors which could result in a probable cause hearing. The goal is to avoid the probable cause hearing.

14. Provide timely coordination with local providers, including hospital ERs, DHHR protective service workers, mental hygiene commissioners, magistrates, law enforcement, crisis stabilization units, and other non-hospital diversion resources.

15. Assist in increasing utilization of alternatives to commitment by assessing the feasibility of Voluntary Treatment Agreements, use of crisis units, and the provision of crisis intervention services.

16. Participate in team meetings. Work closely with other members of the IDT, especially care coordinators, certifiers and other clinical staff.

17. Provides clients with linkage to ongoing education regarding substance abuse, mental health, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, tobacco, nutrition and exercise and other health and wellness information.

18. Represent FMRS in a positive manner including maintaining a positive attitude and performing duties in a manner in accordance with FMRS’ Mission and Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards.

19. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling or Psychology.
  • Preferred experience with substance use disorders, homlessness, mental illness and domestic violence.
  • Must Possess Valid WV Driver’s License in good standing
  • Access to a Personal Vehicle.
  • Must be able to pass all background checks.
  • Must participate in On-call rotation

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent communications, verbal and written.
  • Frequent standing and/or sitting.
  • Visually or otherwise be able to identify, observe and assess clients.
  • Complete all agency required training.
  • Be able to respond to consumers in crisis in the community.
