What are the responsibilities and job description for the Trade Compliance Specialist position at FOAMit?
Regulatory Compliance
- Monitor and interpret trade regulations, including those from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and other global agencies
- Ensure compliance with import/export licensing, tariff classifications, and trade documentation requirements.
- Manage and maintain HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) classifications and ECCN (Export Control Classification Numbers) assignments for our products
Customs Operations
- Oversee customs clearance processes, ensuring timely and accurate submission of documentation.
- Liaise with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and other third-party logistics providers to resolve shipment issues
- Conduct post-entry audits to validate accuracy and compliance with regulations
- Manage the classification of our product, including an understanding of General Rules of Interpretation, NOM, Free Trade Agreements, duty calculations or draw backs.
Risk Management and Policy Development
- Develop, implement, and maintain trade compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Conduct periodic audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate compliance risks.
- Stay updated on changes to trade laws and regulations and communicate relevant updates to internal stakeholders
Training and Support
- Provide training and guidance to internal teams on trade compliance requirements and best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments including Supply Chain, Finance and Legal to ensure alignment on compliance initiatives.
- Act as a point of contact for trade compliance inquiries and support resolution of compliance issues.
Record keeping and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of import/export transactions in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and submit reports to regulatory agencies as required.
- Ensure adherence to record retention policies for trade documentation
Domestic Logistics
- Interpret and verify NMFC codes to avoid shipping delays and incurred freight costs due to misclassification
- Ensure shipments containing hazardous goods (specifically lithium-ion batteries) are classified, labeled and documented in compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and International Air Transportation Association (IATA)

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
