The Associate Gift Planning Officer position is part of the Planned Giving department, which functions as a service department to the fundraising segments within Focus on the Family and to our donors directly. This position exists to assist the Gift Planning Officer with the donor customer service and the processing and cataloging of planned gifts, namely estate gifts that come to us through bequests. Additionally, this position must have a high-level understanding of other planned gifts and financial planning concepts to assist and educate donors by answering questions and by being a resource to them. These activities involve extensive contact with both donors and industry professionals that require considerable initiative and independent judgment daily with only general direction from the Gift Planning Officer. The role consists of roughly 10% Project Coordinating, 40% Customer Service and 50% administrative tasks related to the previous two categories.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
The Focus on the Family Planned Giving department oversees four major gift categories. This position will assist the Gift Planning Officer in the following ways:
Wills & Bequests:
Develops and maintains familiarity with issues of taxation and valuation of outright gifts and deferred gifts
Communicates with attorneys, trustees, and executors to complete transfers of estate gifts
Maintains an in depth understanding of the ministry’s core programs and initiatives
Identifies needs of donors through high value questions and interpersonal communication
Cultivates relationships for further engagement; responding to initial contact by donor, answers questions, and gives direction and provides educational resources for appropriate gift types
Works through follow up process until completion of gifts; communicates appreciation and a desire to serve donors

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
The Focus on the Family Planned Giving department oversees four major gift categories. This position will assist the Gift Planning Officer in the following ways:
Wills & Bequests:
- Is a proactive Focus on the Family advocate encouraging appropriate donors to add us to their estate plan
- Receives and reviews all estate documents to ensure that due diligence is completed in the process of closing estate gifts
- Works with the Gift Planning Officer on the marketing strategy and content for bequest campaigns
- Manages the follow up process for bequest prospects
- Maintains an accurate record of bequest notifications in our donor data base
- Administrates thank you responses for bequest notifications
- Gathers and prepares monthly reports of bequest notifications
- Is a proactive Focus on the Family advocate encouraging appropriate donors to give to us from their IRA
- Administrates IRA Charitable Rollover gifts
- Works with the Gift Planning Officer to the marketing strategy and content for IRA Charitable Rollover campaigns
- Maintains an accurate record of IRA Charitable Rollover gifts in our donor data base
- Gathers and prepares monthly reports of IRA Charitable Rollover gifts
- Is a proactive Focus on the Family advocate encouraging appropriate donors to give a gift from their business or real estate
- Maintains a working knowledge of business and real estate gifts to refer donors to the appropriate gift solution
- Is a proactive Focus on the Family advocate encouraging appropriate donors to open a Charitable Gift Annuity with Focus on the Family
- Handles in-bound gift annuity calls and prospects, creating personalized illustrations for donors
- Manages the follow up process for gift annuity prospects

Personal Characteristics:
- Articulate, approachable, teachable, concerned for long–term effectiveness for both face to face and over the telephone communication, detail-oriented, personable, self-accountable, self-motivated, and team-oriented
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and/or Accounting and/or Finance preferred
- Familiar with a variety of Financial Planning concepts and principles
- Sales experience, telemarketing, or retail
- 2 - 4 years of experience in Planned Giving or Business-related field preferred
- Administrative experience; enjoys developing and maintaining systems
- Attitude of service to Focus donors
- Enjoys working with people - this position will deal intensely with donors and various supporting industry professionals
- Excellent conversational, human relations and telephone skills
- Independent self-starter
- Ability to work with limited supervision
