PRN Counselor for the Eating Disorder Unit
POSITION SUMMARY
Under general to limited supervision, provides intensive, professional counseling services to a caseload of patients with substance abuse, eating disorders, and/or mental health disorders on an as-needed basis when clinical or facility needs dictate.
QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of a Masters degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Sociology, or an equivalent field at an accredited college or university. At least two years of experience providing individual and/or group counseling for a caseload of patients. Must be licensed in TN as a Professional Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Master Social Worker, or in process of becoming licensed.
Recovering individuals must have a minimum of two years of continuous abstinence from addictive substances and disordered eating behaviors and must be active in support groups.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
- Assess assigned patients and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Conduct individual and family counseling sessions with assigned patients.
- Document all counseling sessions with patients in accordance with facility policy and procedures, State regulations, and Joint Commission standards within the established timeframe, including inputting documentation into EMR system.
- Conduct group therapy sessions on a regular basis as scheduled.
- Document group therapy sessions within established time frames with assigned patients in accordance with facility policy and procedures, State regulations, and Joint Commission standards within the established time frame, including inputting documentation into EMR system.
- Conduct and facilitates psychoeducational groups as assigned and scheduled.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of counseling theory and techniques, as well as the current DSM diagnoses and codes.
- Develop and implement appropriate therapeutic activities and/or programs as clinical needs indicate.
- Address issues identified in the treatment plans and any other clinical issues that occur.
- Assist patients with Discharge Planning including any necessary referrals, continuity of care and placement in appropriate living environments after discharge when needed.
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the group process, eating disorders, mental illness, substance use disorders, developmental disabilities, and other designated skill areas.
- Demonstrates ability to build therapeutic rapport with patients and family members.
- Conducts emergency counseling sessions as requested by staff or patients.
- Function as a member of the treatment team, presenting appropriate information and participating in team discussion and evaluation of patient goals, objectives, and motivations.
- Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals, and other literature and attending related seminars and conferences.
- Complete all facility required documentation within required time frames.
- Appropriately de-escalates disruptive or crisis situations.
- Is appropriately available to patients during times of emotional, physical, or life crisis.
- Willing to accommodate programming needs that occur seven days per weeks, including evenings when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
