Job Overview :
We are seeking an experienced Director of Patient Financial Services to lead and oversee patient billing, collection functions, and patient access operations (admitting, registration, financial counseling, insurance verification, and cash collections) in an acute hospital setting. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President / Chief Financial Officer, this role is integral in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while driving operational excellence.
This position is ideal for a results-oriented professional with extensive experience in patient financial services and a proven track record of leading teams and improving processes in a hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities :
- Oversee day-to-day management of patient billing and collection functions.
- Direct and manage patient access operations, including admitting, registration, financial counseling, and insurance verification.
- Establish and maintain internal controls to ensure accurate and timely billing to third-party carriers.
- Monitor daily cash flow and manage accounts receivable to maintain industry standards.
- Prepare statistical, analytical, and management reports as requested by the CFO.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align department objectives with hospital goals.
- Supervise a team of approximately 25 staff members, including 2 managers.
- Develop and implement efficient workflows to enhance patient financial services and patient access operations.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives for staff through education, training, and positive reinforcement of appropriate working practices.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations at federal, state, and local levels.
- Monitor and analyze key performance metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
- Manage external billing services and maintain relationships with vendors and governmental agencies.
- Ensure compliance with Medicare / Medicaid regulations and other third-party payer requirements.
- Oversee denial management and budget preparation processes.
- Maintain a strong commitment to customer service, dealing with internal and external customers, departments, and facilities.
Qualifications :
A minimum of 7 years of recent experience in patient billing, collection, and registration functions within an acute hospital setting.
