Description
Under the general supervision of the District Attorney and Office Manager, assembles information for cases for attorneys to draft legal documents. Prepares cases for attorneys for court proceedings, drafts legal documents and assists attorneys with other duties necessary for prosecution of cases.
Examples of Duties
- Gathers information for attorneys to draft criminal complaints, juvenile petitions, orders and motions.
- Prepares cases for attorneys for court proceedings and sets up cases for initial appearances.
- Prepares Information and bind-over for Preliminary hearings, sets up cases, runs calendars scheduled court hearings, and sets cases for review.
- Prepares discovery materials (reports and electronic discovery) to send to defense attorney's, redacting cases with victims and sending drugs out for testing and following up on results.
- Prepare Jury Instructions, Verdicts, Witness List, Motions in Limine, and other trial related motions and gathering all documents such as certified court documents.
- Preparing out of state extraditions, coordinating out of state prompt disposition requests and out of state print/jail facility to prepare transport.
- Manage daily queue which includes documents filed throughout the day with Clerk of Courts via defense attorneys, private attorneys, assistant district attorneys, and the Court as well as utilize CCAP to assist with the management of calendars and deadlines.
- Provides dispositions of cases to police agencies, opens and closes case files as needed, and scans old files into Protect.
- Answers questions for people involved in court proceedings, sets up appointments, directs to appropriate departments, and advises of case status.
- Run driving records and criminal histories through NCIC.
- Assists in collecting criminal restitution in the absence of the Office Manager.
- Sends Subpoenas to victims, witnesses, analysts/specialists and officers for all Jury Trials and assist in cancelling subpoena's when necessary.
- Performs the duties of the Victim/Witness Coordinator in her/his absence.
- Proof reading new Petitions for CHIPS/TPR, Delinquency, Guardianships and filing with the Court, and notifying all parties' properly whether by certified mail, personal service or publication.
- E-File documents with the courts to support a paperless office.
- Setting up and supervising parties in the Diversion Program. Setting up with Options Lab for participants that are required to do random UA testing and corresponding with health care providers regarding AODA, Mental Health and Domestic Violence Assessments as conditions. Conducting monthly check-in by participants. Taking and receipting monthly fees, documenting participant progress in case and safekeeping of monies.
- Regularly attend webinars and learn updates to Protect.

Desirable Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of basic legal documents, the workings of the court system, and computers. Ability to work independently, prepare accurate documents and to communicate and deal effectively with clients and the general public. Able to work efficiently under critical time constraints.
Training and Experience:
In evaluating candidates for this position, the County may consider a combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.

Training and Experience:
- High school diploma.
- 2-3 years of experience or equivalent education in the legal field is preferred.

This position is approved to be hired on or after December 22, 2024. The wage in the posting is the approved scale for 2025.
