This position works within the Transportation department. This department is responsible for Routing, Vehicle Maintenance, Driver Supervision and Cost Control. To support these tasks, this position will:
- Support the Logistics & Transportation departments on all administrative tasks.
- Assist with updating/creating new SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures).
- Attending site inspections (Ride along), investigation and monitoring routes.
- Assist in a variety of duties to ensure the safe and efficient transport of our products.
- Learn about the Transportation & Supply Chain Industry.
- Collaborate with different external companies to investigate & gather information to cross reference costs.
- Leverage multiple technology platforms that are used for day-to-day operations.
- Collaborate with other internal departments to complete projects.
- Gain understanding of industry trends and company initiatives as it relates to driver retention.
- Gain exposure and understanding of basic transportation management principles.
- Participate in daily operational tasks including planning.
- Collaborate with the transportation team to work on a project to optimize delivery time to our agencies.
- Assist operations team in streamlining the SOP of current processes including but not limited to selection, pick, load and dispatch.
- Compassionate, patient, and sensitive to the needs of people experiencing food insecurity.
- Basic computer skills; typing, data entry, Outlook, Microsoft Suite
- Strong communication skills
- Exceptional communication and listening skills.
- Attentive to detail
- Able to work out of Bronx office location Mon - Friday
- Completion of a project that will impact the work being done at The Food Bank for New York City.
- Time with Senior Executives at intern specific fireside chats
- Presentation skills, present your completed project(s) to The Food Bank stakeholders.
- Knowledge of food systems, food safety, and food sustainability
- Experience working in the non-profit space.
