Food Bank for the Heartland has connected our communities with food, resources, and hope since 1981. The fight against hunger is our ongoing, collaborative effort. We work with individuals, organizations, food manufacturers and distributors, grocery stores, the USDA, and Feeding America to procure food and purchase food to supplement donations. At Food Bank for the Heartland, the role of the Information Technology Manager extends far beyond maintaining networks and troubleshooting systems—it is a mission-critical position that safeguards the digital backbone of an organization built on compassion and community service. Tasked with leading secure, efficient, and scalable technology solutions, the IT Manager ensures that every byte of data and every digital transaction upholds the integrity, vision, and reputation of the Food Bank.

In this role, technology becomes a bridge—connecting donors to purpose, volunteers to opportunity, and food to those in need. The IT Manager serves as a steward of trust, ensuring that the systems used to fight hunger are resilient, responsive, and aligned with FBFH’s mission to eliminate food insecurity with dignity and respect. Every server maintained and every system upgraded is a step toward a stronger, more responsive food bank—one that meets the needs of today while preparing for the challenges of tomorrow.

    • Spearhead the creation and execution of innovative IT policies, procedures, and best practices that drive operational excellence, foster consistency, and uphold the highest standards of efficiency and security.
    • Evaluate emerging technologies and strategically recommend transformative solutions that enhance operational efficiency and elevate the quality of service delivered, driving long-term impact and innovation.
    • Partner with the IT team and FBFH leadership to co-create a visionary IT infrastructure strategy, shaping a resilient architecture and defining key focus areas that align with our mission and drive sustainable growth.
    • Collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team to craft an insightful annual budget, foster strategic long-term financial planning, and implement cost management practices that align resources with the organization’s vision and drive sustainable success.
  • Infrastructure and Systems Management:
    • Oversee the maintenance and performance of server networks and systems.
    • Safeguard the integrity of data, fortify system security, and drive operational efficiency, creating a resilient IT ecosystem that empowers the organization’s long-term success.
    • Ensure the resilience of critical systems by rigorously maintaining and testing data backup, disaster recovery, and incident response plans, safeguarding the organization’s continuity and operational stability.
    • Continuously monitor system performance, anticipating challenges and addressing issues with proactive precision to ensure seamless, uninterrupted operations.
    • Support the strategic management of upgrades, migrations, and integrations, ensuring seamless transitions that uphold business continuity and foster long-term operational resilience.
    • Serve as FBFH NetSuite Administrator.
    • Continuously assess the performance of IT systems, analyzing cost-efficiency and productivity to provide strategic insights and recommendations for enhancing the infrastructure and driving sustainable growth.
    • Create and sustain a comprehensive inventory of all IT systems and software, meticulously managing user credentials, access protocols, and payment schedules to ensure security, compliance, and operational efficiency.
  • Protecting digital assets through robust cybersecurity measures while ensuring full adherence to regulatory standards and industry best practices.
    • Lead the charge in safeguarding the system and sensitive data by instituting and maintaining robust cybersecurity protocols, ensuring the integrity and resilience of the organizational digital infrastructure.
    • Oversee the implementation of management of advanced antivirus systems, firewalls, and user access controls to safeguard organizational assets, ensuring robust protection against threats and unauthorized access.
    • Empower staff through comprehensive training on cybersecurity awareness and best practices, fostering a culture of vigilance and responsibility to protect organizationally integrated and digital assets.
    • Safeguard continuity through proactive maintenance and testing of backup, disaster recovery, and incident response plans.
    • Uphold the highest standards of data integrity by ensuring strict compliance with data protection regulations, reinforcing internal governance controls.
  • Frontline technology support oversight to enable user success and organizational impact
    • Deliver expert technical support to empower staff in effectively leveraging hardware, software, and applications, enabling seamless productivity and mission-driven impact.
    • Act as the central point of guidance for IT troubleshooting and user training, fostering confidence, efficiency, and technological fluency across the organization.
    • Diligently track and document technical issues, ensuring timely resolutions while analyzing patterns to drive continuous improvement and proactive solutions.
    • Elevate the help desk experience through ongoing feedback, innovation, and a commitment to exceeding user expectations.
  • Stewardship of technology partnerships and platforms to advance organizational goals
    • Orchestrate and nurture strategic vendor relationships, oversee contract negotiations, ensure compliance with software licensing, and manage service-level agreements to drive operational excellence and mutual successes.
    • Guarantee the seamless operation and optimal performance of critical software tools, including databases and inventory systems, to support efficiency and informed decision-making.
  • Stewardship of data accuracy and security, ensuring reliability and trustworthiness across all information assets
    • Ensure the safeguarding, secure storage, and reliable backup of sensitive information, preserving its integrity and availability in alignment with organizational trust and compliance standards.
    • Facilitate the seamless collection, insightful reporting, and in-depth analysis of data, empowering informed decision-making for both internal stakeholders and external partners.
    • Uphold the highest standards of data privacy by ensuring rigorous compliance with all relevant regulations and safeguarding the trust of stakeholders.
  • Steering the successful implementation of projects with vision, precision, and focus on delivering impactful results and sustainable outcomes
    • Spearhead transformative IT projects, including system migrations, software implementations, and the introduction of innovative technologies, driving organizational progress and technological advancement.
    • Collaborate in the strategic oversight of budgets, timelines, and stakeholder communications, ensuring alignment, transparency, and the successful delivery of key initiatives.
    • Foster seamless collaboration across cross-functional teams to ensure smooth transactions and the successful adoption of new processes, technologies, and initiatives.
  • Empowering organizational transformation through strategic training and effective change management, fostering adaptability and sustained growth
    • Facilitate ongoing learning through engaging training sessions and the creation of intuitive, accessible documentation to empower users and drive seamless adoption.
    • Spearhead, together with the VP of Business Operations, a transformative change management initiative, guiding the seamless integration of new systems and upgrades to drive organizational evolution and maximize impact.
    • Foster a technology-driven culture by empowering staff to confidently adopt and leverage innovative tools, driving growth and organizational agility.
    • Identify opportunities for growth by recognizing knowledge gaps and providing continuous learning pathways to foster professional development and organizational excellence.

Your Story:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive IT experience.
  • Minimum of 1 supervising IT staff or managing technical teams or projects.
  • Experience in Oracle products and NetSuite administration is preferred.
  • Experience may be substituted for education.
  • Lived experience with the impacts of systemic racism or marginalization is a plus.
