Overview
Reports to the Operations Manager
The Food Waste Warrior (Driver) reports directly to the Operations Manager. This is a logistical position, requiring detailed tracking of rescued food and distribution to community agencies, as well as being physically demanding at times when loading and unloading surplus food.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Drive the Food Connection (FC) van to rescue unserved food from our food donor partners, either scheduled recurring pick-ups or when they reach out to donate.
- Coordinate with Mobile Meals Manager and make strategic plans for food donations and pick-ups.
- Track rescued food and communicate clearly with Mobile Meals Manager in real-time to determine what food will be donated to agency partners in bulk and what food returns to our brick-and-mortar for meal packing.
- Serve as the continuing point of contact with agency recipient partners and food donors, providing experiential knowledge regarding best fits for both.
- Maintain tracking logs for all rescued food, which includes the source of food (donor), common name of food, the date of preparation, the quantity and when applicable, the recipient partner receiving the food.
- Maintain accurate labeling practices of all food to ensure accurate tracking.
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and governmental health codes.
- Participate in routine maintenance and cleanliness of the FC van, refrigerated trailer, meal packing space, Mobile Meals food truck, and other FC property as directed.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with volunteers, community partners, and team members.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously, and maintain accurate records.
- Meticulous attention to detail when handling food products, tracking inventory, and following safety protocols.
- Collaborative attitude with a willingness to work closely with others in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities and operational needs as they arise.
- Basic understanding of food safety principles and practices, including proper handling and storage of perishable items.

- Driver’s license/clean driving record.
- Connections in the greater Asheville Community are highly desired.
