The role is responsible for the application of approved microbiological techniques and methodologies used in analytical testing.
Essential Responsibilities
- Bioburden panel testing.
- Total plate count, Total combined yeast and mold count, enrichment testing.
- Test for specific microorganisms (pathogens).
- Media growth promotion testing.
- Microbiological examination of water.
- Environmental monitoring of air, equipment, and surfaces.
- Microscopic examination and identification.
- Water conductivity.
- Familiarity with the following microbial techniques: membrane filtration, pour plating, streaking.
- Plate reading.
- Apply aseptic techniques in daily workload.
- Use the autoclave to sanitize consumables and biohazardous waste.
- Maintain proper lab 5S, routinely check lab inventory and report expendable supplies/materials needed for testing requirements.
- Provide routine preventive maintenance by daily cleaning, sanitizing, and trash disposal.
- Perform quality control monitoring by taking incubator temperatures, inoculating control organisms, running media controls, etc
- Perform all activities in a neat, safe, hygienic, and efficient manner.
- Back up to other analysts.
- Properly document and record all information.
- Familiarity with lab ware.
- Familiarity of proper GDP and GMP.
- assist with special projects.
- Organized, learns quickly and able to work and assist other departments within the company.
- Routinely check emails and teams, participate in department and company meetings.
- Complete all required training by or before its due date.
- Share information in an open, and timely manner with the Supervisor.
- Able to work weekends.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- BS degree in microbiology or related field preferred
- At minimum, 1 or more years of Quality Assurance or Microbiological testing experience in the cosmetic, nutritional, or pharmaceutical industries.
- Broad knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures of a food testing laboratory
- Ability to travel is preferred
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Able to handle multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to adapt to changes to improve company processes.
- Able to carry up to 50 pounds.
- Able to stand and sit for long periods of time.
