What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Service Worker Lead position at Food Service?
The North Reading Public Schools is seeking an experienced Food Service Worker Lead at the Elementary level (E. Ethel Little Elementary School) starting February 10, 2025. As the Food Service Lead you will be responsible for cooking and preparing meals according to recipes while ensuring food is prepared in a manner that is nutritious, safe, properly flavored, and in compliance with the District, USDA, and National School Lunch Program.

The position is 32.5 hours per week from approximately 7:30 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. each day. These hours are dependent on the District maintaining the breakfast program. The position comes with competitive hourly rates and benefit package including health insurance.
Essential duties
- Prepare various high quality hot and cold food items
- Follow Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) for food from the time it is received to the point of service
- Assist Director of Food Services in maintaining accurate daily production records
- Order supplies and food needed in main cooking facility
- Offer and serve correct portions to comply with National School Lunch Program
- Responsible for correct temperatures on all foods and beverages
- Supervise and assist Food Service Workers on all daily activities including, but not limited to, ware washing, sanitizing lunch tables, and general cleaning
- Cashiering
- Responsible for proper labeling, dating, and rotation of stock in dry storage, coolers, and freezers
- Attend training and development classes and work site meetings
- Follow safety and sanitation guidelines
- Wear the prescribed uniform and maintain a professional appearance at all times
Requirements
- Knowledge of food handling, preparation, safety, sanitation, and standard kitchen equipment
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure for recipes
- ServSafe Manager certification
- One (1) year past experience in school cafeteria and/or food service preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- History of giving direction in a professional manner
- Hardworking and energetic
- Works well with colleagues
- Can work independently
- High School/Trade School degree preferred
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
