We are searching for a skilled and detail‐oriented individual to join our facilities team as a Repair and Maintenance Technician.
This role is responsible for providing repair and maintenance assistance throughout Foodland Super Market, Ltd and affiliated companies. The R&M Technician will assist in maintaining the integrity of facility systems, including boiler systems, pumps, ventilation systems, plumbing systems, air-conditioning, electrical, electronics, kitchen appliances, sewage systems, the Energy Management Systems (EMS), and other building components with supervision. Ensure that appropriate service manuals, technical manuals, and blueprints are utilized during preventive maintenance, repair, or replacement of systems or components. Adhere to sound engineering practices, building codes, and follow safety precautions.
Essential Job Duties:
- Provide superior service to all stores, managers, and fellow associates.
- Anticipate service needs by asking questions and observing preferences.
- Respond to maintenance service requests promptly and courteously, through verbal or telephone requests or through Verisae (Maintenance management software).
- Assess situations to determine the scope of work required to repair malfunctioning equipment or areas.
- Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment, including cleaning and lubrication.
- Perform repairs to overall property, including store customer areas, common areas, storage rooms, and work areas.
- Process all follow-up paperwork for recordkeeping and other duties as assigned or required.
- Report any serious maintenance problems, unusual findings, or safety hazards immediately to the manager/supervisor.
- Identify, locate, and operate all shut-off valves for equipment at all locations.
- Maintain proper maintenance inventory and requisition parts and supplies as needed.
- Follow company and department safety and security policies and procedures to ensure a clean, safe, and secure environment.
- Follow policies and procedures for the safe operation and storage of tools, equipment, and machines.
- Follow property-specific procedures for handling emergency situations (e.g., evacuations, medical emergencies, natural disasters).
- Follow Hazardous Material Management Program procedures for handling and disposing of chemicals, fertilizer, pesticides, bloodborne pathogens, etc., including using Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Complete appropriate safety training and certifications to perform work tasks.
- Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines to identify defects.
- Use the Lockout/Tagout system before performing any maintenance work.
- Carry all equipment (e.g., keys, phones, pager, tools, radio) to maintain preparedness to carry out work tasks at all times.
- Ensure that all flammable materials are stored in OSHA and EPA-approved containment devices.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, refrigeration, and commercial kitchen equipment diagnosis and repair.
- Ability to assess service situations to determine the scope of work required to repair malfunctioning equipment or areas.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to quickly adapt to computer programs required for the position.
- Must have a passion for delivering outstanding service in a fast-paced environment.
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Must have a minimum of one year of experience in building maintenance.
- Must have basic knowledge and experience with independent work.
Working Environment:
- Must be available to work any day/any shift, including evenings, overnight, weekends, and holidays. Flexible and long hours sometimes required.
Mental Demands:
- Must be able to work independently to complete required tasks, demonstrate time management and organizational skills to complete all requests.
- Must be organized and detail oriented.
- Ability to multi-task and work calmly and efficiently in a stressful environment.
Physical Demands:
- Position requires extended periods of walking, standing, crouching, sitting, grasping, manual dexterity, bending, lifting, twisting, reaching, and carrying.
- Must be able to access all areas of the stores, including stairways, uneven surfaces, elevators, and small enclosed spaces without assistance.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance, and heavier loads as needed with or without assistance.
- Must be able to operate all required machinery, tools, and equipment in a safe, approved manner.
Communication Demands:
- Must be able to communicate via radio, phone, computer, or through other required communication devices.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Must have a valid Hawaii Driver's License and a clean abstract.
- Recommended certifications: Certified Facility Manager (CFM), EPA Amusement Operators Safety Certification, OSHA Safety Certificate, Master Certified Electronics Technician (CETma), Facilities Maintenance Technician Certificate, Air Conditioning Service Certification (NATE), Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC)
