Position: Assistant Director of Development, Community Engagement & Special Events

Reports to: Director of Advancement

Position Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Start Date: August 1, 2025


The School


Founded in 1954, Foothill Country Day School is an independent, co-ed day school of approximately 420 students in grades preschool-8th. Summary


The Assistant Director is responsible for engaging with the Foothill community by developing relationships with our constituents and through events. The Assistant Director supports all friend- and fund-raising activities of the school, engages in communication with all key school constituents, and is expected to perform all functions with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality. This is a 12-month position. The regular work week is Monday – Friday with occasional weekend and evening work required.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage community events, including, but not limited to:
    • Community Cultural Presentations, Generations Day, Foothill Forums, and community service opportunities.
    • Provide secondary support to other school wide faculty led events such as International Days and Field Day/Art Walk.
  • In partnership with the Director of Advancement, provide support to the Betty Webb Organization, the School’s parent organization.
    • Serve as a school liaison, facilitating meetings, activities, events, etc.
    • Liaison with school regarding community service.
  • Develop a plan to engage alumni in coordination with Director of Advancement.
    • This includes planning alumni events, overseeing the alumni booth at Field Day/Art Walk, assisting with the alumni newsletter & contributing to the annual report.
  • Work with the Director of Marketing & Communications to build the school’s social media strategy for alumni and contribute content to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Produce events sponsored by the Advancement office beyond alumni events, including but not limited to fundraising, stewardship and constituent engagement events, such as the Fall Family Dinner, the 1954 Society Event, parent socials and on-boarding events, and major school-wide community-building events.
  • Carry a portfolio of annual giving prospects and be responsible for meeting with constituents throughout the year.


The ideal candidate will have the following educational and work background:

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited institution
  • Previous experience in an independent school, youth-serving non-profit organization, college or university, or similar.
  • Proven experience in event planning, community relations, or a similar role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, while meeting deadlines.

  • Possess a high level of computer literacy, including the use of Microsoft Office applications, Canva, or similar graphics programs, social media and communications platforms, and project management software.
  • Experience with Bloomerang or similar database/CRM.
  • Graphic design skills are a plus.
  • Enjoy creative projects and approach new tasks with ingenuity.
  • Work independently, and collaboratively with colleagues, trustees, parents, donors, vendors, and other constituents.

 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Work in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines, as well as a diverse array of contacts.
  • Work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled environment.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.


Salary Range:

  • $75,000-$85,000 annually
