The British Government’s Consulate in Miami has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and driven person to join the British Overseas Territories & Polar Directorate Justice programme team as a project officer. In this role you would be working in a diverse international environment to support UK diplomats, armed forces personnel and other country-based staff operating across the British Government’s network of Consulates and Government Offices in the United States. This network provides a platform for approximately 30 Government departments and agencies to conduct their work in the United States and is made up of over 900 staff with a rich and diverse background, skill sets, and experiences.


This is a chance to directly contribute to the way in which the British Government supports development of law enforcement capacity and capability in the British Overseas Territories. Key responsibilities of the role are to arrange the logistics and planning for events and activities across the British Overseas Territories. Events are hosted in the British Overseas Territories, in Miami and the UK, including at Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office, King Charles Street, London. The post holder will liaise with suppliers, senior police officers, event managers and delegates to confirm requirements and make decisions on the most cost effective and efficient options for transport and venue options. The project officer will complete monitoring and evaluation processes and contribute to general project activity.


Occasional international travel will be required as part of event and project planning and delivery.

The ideal candidate will be a strong team player, be a clear and effective communicator, with strong attention to detail with a background in event logistic planning and project administration.


Roles and responsibilities:


  • Tracks, forecasts and monitors project spend, and provides accurate financial reporting to the OTPD law enforcement adviser OTPD Justice Programme Manager. Identify and manage spending gaps, budgetary risks and issues, and formulate mitigation options. (20%)
  • Identify opportunities to add value to the programme and make recommendations to the senior programme officers to ensure the most efficient use of programme resources. (10%)
  • Assist project management and drive strong delivery of ISF Programming. Includes being responsible for the design, planning and coordination of project events and activities. (50%)
  • Complete project monitoring and evaluation processes in accordance with Integrated Security Fund processes. (25%)
  • Any other duties as assigned. (5%)


Resources managed (staff and expenditure):


  • Involved in oversight of £4-5 million per year ISF programme with direct responsibility for managing approximately £500,000 to £1m per year
  • The role does not require direct line management of staff but will require coordinating project activities and completing monitoring ISF project and evaluation processes.


Essential qualifications, skills and experience

• At least 3 years of relevant experience in managing projects involving international delivery.

• Proven capability in project management.

• Proven capability in event planning and delivery of event logistics.

• Proven capability to deliver projects in accordance to an agreed project plan.

• Proven capability to deliver project monitoring and evaluation.

• Excellent levels of written and verbal communication with senior and junior members of staff.

• Proven capability to manage delegated budgets and deliver value for money.

• Competent use of Microsoft office.

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

• Experience of working with the British Overseas Territories police and law enforcement agencies.

• Experience of working with the FCDO Overseas Territories & Polar Directorate Justice programme.

• Experience of working with projects using budgets from the UK Integrated Security Fund.

Working pattern:


This role is 32 hours a week, but does not require set working hours each day.


The role requires liaison and working with colleagues across the British Overseas Territories and FCDO UK based staff. This will involve different time zones.
