What are the responsibilities and job description for the Before/After School On Site Child Care Director position at Forest Hills Public Schools?
Hours would be 6:45am-start of school and end of school to 6pm Monday - Friday.
Job Summary: Responsible for the planning and implementation of a daily program that will provide children with daily activities and relationships that offer opportunities for the developmental growth of each child in the following areas:
- Physical development, including large and small muscles
- Social development, including communication skills.
- Emotional development, including positive self-concept.
- Intellectual development.
- Outdoor play on a daily basis, weather permitting
Qualifications:
Must have completed at least 60 semester hours of credit at an accredited college or university - Ideal but not required.
Must have completed at least 12 semester hours in child development, child psychology, or early childhood education -desired, but not required. Directors at the 5/6 buildings may substitute credit hours in elementary education, physical education or recreation for any of the 12 hours. Credentials are to remain on site and copies are to be placed in their personnel file.
Elementary Certification desired, but not required
Must submit completed Licensing Record Clearance forms and Medical Clearance Forms
Should have current CPR and First Aid Training. Annual re-training will be provided for childcare staff in the fall of each school year - ideal but not required.
Must be of responsible character and suitable to meet the needs of children.
Job Functions:
Responsible for correct staffing during the before and after school programs using a ratio of 1 caregiver (a person providing direct care, supervision and guidance of a child) to 17 children. Pre-school ratio for 3-4 year olds is 1:10. Kindergarten Kids Care for 4-5 year olds is 1:12.
It is the responsibility of the director to staff according to needs based on attendance numbers. At times, staff will need to start later or leave earlier when numbers are lower than need for listed ratios.
Work, as needed, on non-school days or ½ days, and during winter, mid-winter, and spring breaks.
On days when child care is in operation for either ½ or full days, the director is responsible to cover the hours for the ½ day and at least 6 hours for a full day.
Use Forest Hills Food Service to purchase breakfast and snack foods for before and after school programs.
Must follow licensing and school procedures to safeguard the health and safety of the children in the program. These procedures include but are not limited to hand washing, sanitary measures, playground safety rules regarding the use of supplies and equipment. Directors will review procedures with all staff members.
Responsible for all information as required by the office that is necessary for the operation of the program.
Responsible for the accurate reporting of all staff member’s time sheet.
Responsible for equipping the site with appropriate games, puzzles, and activities to fit the number of children and their age groups. Art, music and literature will be incorporated for creative experiences.
Directors are required to attend monthly meetings with child care supervisor, office personnel, and other directors.
Directors must conduct and document a staff training meeting prior to the start of the school year program.
Directors shall be comfortable and friendly with parents. Directors will use, and staff are encouraged to use, the following interaction suggestions with parents:Establish eye contact and smile at parents when they enter the room, even if you are too busy to talk to them.
Tell parents something positive about their child as often as possible. Leave a note in their file. Make it a goal to communicate with a parent once a day.
Always let parents know you want to help them.
Respect the confidentiality of information you have about the children and their families.
NEVER talk about a child or a family to another parent, or in front of another parent.
Directors will have on-going communication with building principal and office staff, aides, custodial staff and Child Care Services staff. Directors will communicate with their immediate supervisor, and Child Care Services Supervisor, on all staffing issues.
Responsible for meal and snack attendance sheets for each day. Director must train one other person in the correct process.
Menu requirements: All staff must be familiar with the correct components for breakfast and/or snacks, including lunch on the rare occasion that a lunch is required to be served, i.e.: snow days.
Tornado and Fire Drills: must be performed and documented four (4) times each school year. Emergency evacuation information must be posted in plain view in each area used by the child care program.
State License: Each site must have its state license framed and hanging in a visible area.
Perform any other related duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment: The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District. Pay scale and fringe benefits as described in the Child Care & Pre-school Staff Agreement.
Evaluation: In accordance with the Child Care & Pre-school Staff Agreement on evaluation.
