Job Summary:
The Cemetery Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for families and visitors, ensuring a warm, welcoming, and professional experience. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a high level of empathy, and the ability to handle sensitive situations with care and discretion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet and assist visitors, families, and funeral directors in person, over the phone, and via email.
- Provide information about cemetery services, burial plots, and memorial options.
- Schedule and coordinate burial services, including liaising with funeral homes and cemetery grounds staff.
- Maintain accurate records of burials, plot ownership, and other cemetery activities.
- Process payments, prepare invoices, and manage other administrative tasks.
- Assist with the planning and execution of cemetery events, such as memorial services and community outreach activities.
- Ensure the reception area is tidy and stocked with informational materials.
- Handle sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism, respecting the privacy and emotions of grieving families.
- Perform other duties as assigned by cemetery management.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in administration or customer service is a plus.
- Previous experience in a receptionist or customer service role, preferably in a cemetery or funeral home setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and empathetic demeanor.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience with office equipment (phones, printers, etc.).
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and maintain a high level of organization.
- Comfort with working in a cemetery environment and interacting with grieving families.
- Discretion and sensitivity in dealing with confidential information.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed.
- Bilingual, Spanish/English, is a plus.
