This is a part-time, limited duration appointment, that is expected to end on or before December 31, 2026. Limited duration appointments are benefits eligible and have a designated maximum length of service.
What we are looking for:
ODF is looking for a Natural Resource Specialist 3 – Cohesive Wildfire Strategy Coordinator to provide leadership, operational oversight, coordination and direction for the Northern Blue Mountain Cohesive Wildfire Strategy (NBMCWS) project within the project area of the northern Blue Mountain geo-region for the Oregon Department of Forestry. The geo-region encompasses approximately 8 million acres of land which is protected from wildfire by a diverse group of landowners, agencies and political subdivisions. These goals and related duties are in the areas of:
- Leading and working with the NBMCWS partners to address the three primary aspects of the Cohesive Wildland Fire Strategy which are: 1) restoring and maintaining resilient landscapes, 2) creating fire adapted communities and 3) responding to and managing wildfire across the geo-region; while balancing the mission, vision and values of the fire protection agencies involved.
- Development and enhancement of political and operational relationships with Local, State and Federal Agencies, cooperators and landowners.
- Ensuring the project is in alignment with agency goals and objectives that are established from the Board of Forestry - Forestry Program for Oregon (FPFO), the Agency Strategic Plan and Department's Mission and Vision statements.
- Aligning the project with the goals and objectives of a diverse group of stakeholders (private landowners, volunteer fire departments and local, state and federal agencies) which will be partners in the Cohesive Wildfire Strategy.
Minimum Qualifications:
Three years of experience in Forestry or closely related natural resources field. At least one year of the experience must be at a technical or professional level performing activities in a natural resource program such as researching and analyzing data, conducting investigations, applying pertinent laws and regulations, or coordinating and monitoring project activities;
AND
A bachelor's degree in Forestry or closely related natural resources field, or three additional years of related (pertinent) experience.
A master's degree in Forestry or closely related natural resources field will substitute for up to one year of the required experience.
A Doctorate degree in Forestry or closely related natural resources field will substitute for up to two years of the required experience.
Note: Driver’s License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver’s license, a record check will be conducted on the top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.

- Knowledge of the National Cohesive Wildfire Strategy framework and how it ties to ODF project work
- Ability to coordinate and facilitate multi-agency meetings
