What we are looking for:
ODF is looking for a Wildland Fire Supervisor – Protection Supervisor to supervise one permanent and thirteen seasonal employees, lead and maintain a highly effective and efficient fire control force and prevention effort. This position will be responsible for:
- Maintaining all of the unit's physical facilities, vehicles and equipment either directly or through subordinate employees.
- Closely coordinating with the Forest Manager 2 (Unit Forester) on all issues of Unit management, especially fiscal control and personnel management.
- Interpreting and using department and district policy and incorporating this information into daily working situations. This includes effective judgement in law enforcement, fire suppression and planning, and coordinating with local cooperators.
- The person hired for this position should be currently Incident Command System qualified at the Task Force Leader and Incident Commander IV level and able to qualify within 2 years at the Division Supervisor and Incident Commander III level.
Minimum Qualifications:
Five (5) years of wildland fire suppression or emergency dispatching which includes one (1) year of leading/supervising the work of others;
OR
Bachelor's degree in forestry or closely related natural resources field and two (2) years of wildland fire suppression or emergency dispatching which includes one (1) year of leading/supervising the work of others.
Note: Driver’s License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver’s license, a record check will be conducted on the top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.

- Ability to make decisions related to the planning, supervision, and coordination of permanent and seasonal workforce.
- Experience working with partner agencies on wildfires and cross boundary fuels treatment projects.
- Ability to provide Duty Officer coverage or coordination for coverage to meet local needs.
- Experience planning, coordinating, and responding to wildland fire and other emergency incidents, including experience with fire suppression response and extended attack incident management.
- Experience administering fire laws, policies, and enforcement actions.
- Experience implementing an effective training program for local Unit staff.
- Experience with fire prevention outreach activities and events.
- An ability to effectively communicate with various agencies and customers in person or via email/writing.
