Job Title: Staff Nurse

Fork Union Military Academy is seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Nurse to join our Infirmary team. The ideal candidate will be an experienced Registered Nurse who is passionate about providing high-quality care to students in a structured, fast-paced environment. As a School Nurse, you will play a crucial role in the health and well-being of our student population, delivering direct nursing care, managing medications, and responding to medical emergencies. You will work closely with students, faculty, and parents, ensuring effective communication and care coordination.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care, including assessment, intervention, documentation, and follow-up for students.
- Adhere to Fork Union Military Academy's Infirmary guidelines and medical orders.
- Assist in managing medical emergencies, including Code Blue/Code Yellow interventions.
- Coordinate with guidance, Commandant's staff, and faculty on students with psychological or academic concerns.
- Manage medication dispensing and student treatments in line with medical guidelines.
- Perform venipuncture, lab testing, and other treatments as required.
- Conduct drug and TB screenings for students and staff.
- Assist in Sick Call and coordinate appointments with physicians.
- Communicate with parents/guardians, faculty, and staff regarding student health concerns.
- Maintain accurate records in the Virginia Department of Health's Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.
- Ensure medical supplies are well-stocked and medical equipment is sterilized.
- Foster a culture of care by supporting students, peers, and the broader academy community.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. At least 5 years of recent experience in primary care, medical-surgical, ER, or ICU/Trauma nursing is preferred. Candidates should have current certification in CPR/AED, with Instructor status a plus. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for working effectively with students, faculty, and parents. The ability to multitask and manage medical duties in a fast-paced, structured environment is a must.
