Summary of Position :
The Logistics Operations Manager is responsible for optimizing the organization’s logistics operations, focusing on efficient transportation between global distribution centers, while ensuring compliance with import / export regulations and maximizing duty drawback returns. The role includes managing the end-to-end customs compliance process, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and leading conversations with customs agents and brokers to ensure smooth operations. The manager will also leverage data-driven insights to forecast trends, optimize routing, and streamline inventory and shipment tracking across domestic and international logistics.
Principle Accountabilities :
Logistics Processes and Documentation Management : (40% of time)
Operational Management : Oversee day-to-day logistics operations, ensuring coordination between transportation, warehousing, and inventory teams to meet operational goals.
Supply Chain Optimization : Analyze logistics performance and identify inefficiencies, driving continuous improvements to reduce costs and enhance supply chain performance.
Vendor and Carrier Management : Negotiate and manage relationships with logistics providers to ensure competitive pricing and timely deliveries, while optimizing transportation lead times and costs.
Transportation Routing : Design global and domestic transportation routing methods, applying Lean Logistics practices to improve efficiency.
Benchmarking and Reporting : Develop dashboards to track transit times, shipping costs, and freight optimization, using data to drive performance improvements.
Customs Interaction : Confidently lead discussions with customs agents and brokers, ensuring that all logistics and duty drawback processes comply with local and international regulations.
Duty Drawback Management : Oversee the end-to-end duty drawback process, ensuring compliance with customs regulations, accurately submitting claims, and maintaining documentation for refunds.
Internal Customer Support : (30% of time)
Freight Cost Savings : Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support freight cost savings initiatives and ensure transportation network design aligns with organizational goals.
System Standardization and Scalability : Design and monitor standardized procedures for transportation systems to support scalable business operations.
Stakeholder Management : Build and maintain relationships with ocean carriers, freight forwarders, 3PL providers, and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth operations and compliance.
System Management and Reporting (30% of time)
TMS Configuration and Testing : Oversee TMS platform configuration, ensuring efficient transportation planning and execution.
System Audits and Performance : Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure systems are compliant with standards and driving performance improvements.
Systems Integration : Apply expertise in TMS, ERP, and Customs Systems to enable seamless integration, ensuring accurate data flow across logistics and supply chain functions.
System Troubleshooting : Monitor and address any issues with system integration to ensure continuous and efficient operations.
Key Working Relationships :
Distribution Center Teams, Finance, IT, Freight Vendors and TMS providers, Inventory Management, Wholesale and Retail Allocations Teams.
Required Skills & Experience :
Requires Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering or BS degree in Supply Chain related field.
- 5 years of experience with international and domestic freight rate tariffs, vendor negotiations, and vendor RFP / Q proposals.
- Systems Analysis, determining how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes.
- Experience working with ERP and TMS systems required.
- Knowledge of HTS codes, commercial invoices, and import / export documentation.
- Experience and understanding of filing duty drawback claims for re-export and destruction.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate efficiently and effectively and project a professional image.
- Great negotiation skills and collaboration practices.
- Strong inter-personal skills with the ability to work with individuals and groups at all organization levels; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
