What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructor, Community Health Worker position at Forsyth Technical Community College?
The Instructor for the Community Health Worker program will be a member of a diverse team that provides individuals with the required knowledge, tools, and resources to become recognized as a certified Community Health Worker (CHW) in North Carolina working in a variety of healthcare and community settings (Health Departments, Hospitals, Federally Qualified Health Centers, Clinics, Faith-based Organizations, etc.). There will be nine core competencies essential to working as a certified CHW which include communication, capacity building, service coordination, interpersonal, advocacy, outreach, personal/professional skills. The knowledge base competencies will cover health and social issues that disproportionately impact clients including but not limited to chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma, and cancer. Some of the social issues covered will include safety, emergency preparedness, social isolation, and adverse childhood experiences (ACES). Students will also learn about the changing health care landscape in North Carolina and how to work with their clients in connecting them to resources through NCCARES 360 and others. Upon completion of this training students will be eligible for listing as a NC Certified Community Health Worker. Course facilitators must complete a train-the-trainer course prior to providing certification instruction.
Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications
Successful candidate may have a combination of the experience listed below:
- A bachelor’s degree in health education, public health, community health and
o Two (2) or more years of community experience
OR
- A master’s degree in health education, public health, community health and
o Five (5) or more years of community experience
OR
- Five (5) or more years of experience as a CHW or related field
- Two (2) or more years of experience as a CHW or related field with at least a bachelor’s degree in public health
- Pursue continuous improvement in the areas of subject matter expertise; teaching and learning; the use of educational technology; diversity, equity, and inclusion; and other areas related to the strategic goals of the college.
- Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing inclusive instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful and that maximize equitable student outcomes.
- Demonstrated practice of fostering diversity, equity and inclusion in the classroom and among your team, as well as experience working in a diverse environment.
