Occupational Therapist

Job Description

 

Purpose: The Occupational Therapist evaluates and provides direct student services and consultive services to staff/parents for students eligible for special education evaluations/services.

 

Reports To: Building Principal(s) and Director of Special Services

 

FLSA Status: Exempt

 

Salary: 187-day contract days, based on Negotiated Agreement Salary Schedule

 

Required Qualifications:  

  • Valid Kansas Occupational Therapist License by the Kansas Board of Healing Arts.
  • Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college/university
  • Possession of a valid Kansas driver’s license
  • Knowledge of the federal, state, and local legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures that mandate and guide occupational therapy practices
  • Ability to interpret evaluation data and write comprehensive reports
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate respectively and compassionately to a child and their family
  • Ability to document in accordance with professional standards and state and local guidelines
  • A high level of professionalism and decorum.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made)
  • The desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as an Occupational Therapist in a school setting

Essential Functions:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Conduct Occupational Therapy screenings according to established state and federal professional standards and procedures
  • Write comprehensive diagnostic evaluations according to established state and federal professional standards and procedures
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team conferences and planning sessions in order to meet the continuing needs of identified students or those at risk
  • Develop Individualized Education Programs for identified students
  • Provide Occupational Therapy services using a variety of service delivery models within a collaborative team to address the fine motor needs of the student
  • Complete documentation through progress notes and quarterly reports that specify student progress on IEP goals and objectives
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and parents to ensure a unified approach to school-related issues
  • Provide training to teachers, parents, instructor assistants, and other related service personnel to ensure their effective contribution to a child’s Individualized Education Program
  • Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA)
  • Serve on various district, school, or Occupational Therapy staff committees as appropriate
  • Proactively schedules parent conferences/visits
  • Participate in the general education SIT process
  • Willing to travel locally using own transportation (mileage reimbursed)
  • Regular attendance at work
  • Other duties as assigned by administration

  • Adhere to all District health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to enter data into a computer, to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone
  • Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone
  • Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height
  • Ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead

Terms of Employment: At-will employment and salary are to be determined by the Board.

 

Evaluation:  Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Negotiated Agreement.
