Summary:
The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for assisting with routine maintenance and repair tasks for Fort
Mojave Indian Tribe properties. This entry-level role is ideal for candidates with one to two years of experience
who are looking to develop their skills in property maintenance. The Maintenance Technician I works under the
supervision of senior staff to complete work orders, perform basic repairs, and ensure properties are well-
maintained and safe for residents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in performing minor repairs for rental units, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry tasks.
- Complete assigned work orders under supervision and follow maintenance schedules.
- Support preventative maintenance inspections and basic unit upkeep.
- Learn to operate and maintain tools and equipment safely.
- Communicate effectively with tenants and team members.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines.
- Participate in on-call maintenance assignments as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in maintenance, construction, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry. Certifications in any of these areas are
a plus.
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate Degree in Building Maintenance, Facilities Management, or Construction Technology
- Technical College or Trade School Courses (preferred).
- Project Management Certification (preferred).
- Blueprint Reading & Building Codes Training (a plus).
- Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAMT) (a plus).
- Apartment Maintenance Pathway Program Certification (a plus).
- Electro-Mechanical Technologies Program (a plus).
Language Ability:
- Proficient in English, with the ability to communicate effectively with management and residents.
Reasoning Ability:
- Strong reasoning and logical problem-solving skills.
Computer Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is a plus but not mandatory.
Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and insurability under the Tribe's auto insurance carrier, required.
- High school diploma or GED, preferred
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Material Utilization:
- Experience with housing construction, hand and power tools, and landscaping is essential.
- Prior experience with HVAC systems or certifications in HVAC maintenance is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong work ethic, dependability, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting work orders, basic math, and measurement skills.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions (heat and cold).
- Capacity to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Team player who can also work independently when required.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for handling and manipulating tools and objects.
- Standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching for extended periods.
- Ability to work in extreme summer heat and moderate winter conditions.
