SAFETY AND SECURITY SPECIALIST REPORTER WINK News is seeking a dynamic and resourceful Safety and Security Specialist Reporter to provide our viewers with essential, actionable, and engaging coverage focused on safety, security, and preparedness. This reporter will lead the station’s efforts to inform and protect the Southwest Florida community, offering expertise on topics ranging from crime prevention and cybersecurity to disaster preparedness and public safety. The ideal candidate will have a strong journalistic background, a passion for storytelling, and the ability to translate complex safety and security issues into relatable and impactful stories across all platforms. Key Responsibilities : Content Creation : Report on safety and security topics such as crime trends, community safety initiatives, cybersecurity threats, disaster preparedness, and emergency response. Develop enterprise stories that offer unique insights and practical tips for keeping individuals and families safe. Breaking News : Provide accurate, timely, and in-depth coverage during breaking news events, such as active shooter situations, or major public safety incidents. Serve as a trusted on-air expert during emergency broadcasts, delivering critical information to the community. Community Engagement : Build relationships with law enforcement, emergency responders, cybersecurity experts, and safety advocates to stay informed and develop story leads. Represent WINK News at community events and forums related to public safety and security. Digital Collaboration : Collaborate with the digital team to create multi-platform content, including articles, videos, and social media posts tailored to online audiences. Develop safety-related content that leverages interactive graphics, maps, and data visualization tools. Investigative Reporting : Investigate safety and security concerns that impact the Southwest Florida community, providing in-depth analysis and holding relevant authorities accountable. Preparedness Education : Regularly produce segments that educate viewers on crime prevention strategies, and best practices for personal and home security. Qualifications : Minimum of 2 years of experience in broadcast or multimedia journalism, preferably covering safety, security, or crime. Proven ability to deliver compelling live reports and expert commentary. Exceptional storytelling, interviewing, and writing skills. Strong knowledge of public safety, emergency response, and cybersecurity trends. Experience with data-driven reporting and the ability to interpret and present statistics and research. Comfortable using social media and digital tools to connect with audiences. Ability to work in high-pressure situations, including during breaking news and severe weather events. Preferred Skills : Familiarity with Southwest Florida’s safety and security challenges. Relationships with local law enforcement, emergency management, and security experts. Experience creating safety-related visual content using tools like mapping software or data visualization platforms.
