What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bilingual Reading Specialist position at Fort River?
The Amherst Public School District is currently seeking candidates for a temporary opening for a Bilingual Reading Specialist Teacher at Fort River Elementary to support the literacy development of the K-6 community. This is a temporary, school-year position for the remainder of the 24-25 school year.
The Reading Specialist will provide coaching to Tier 1 instructors and direct reading intervention services using evidence-based programs in Spanish and English. They will support efforts to make decisions based on data and research-based early literacy practices. At Child Study Team meetings the Reading Specialist will serve as a resource for teachers as to how the classroom teacher can provide Tier I/Tier 2 reading intervention in the classroom.
Preferred Qualifications:
Job Requirements: Applicants must hold a valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education license as a PreK-2, K-6 teacher, and/or Reading Specialist.
Bilingual Spanish/ English

Duties:
- Stay current with best practice and manage the collection, organization, and sharing of student literacy data for the purpose of informing and improving instruction
- Coordinates and provides reading intervention services to students
- Oversees the monitoring of student progress for students receiving reading intervention services
- Support School wide assessments
- Utilizes data and knowledge of research-based literacy practices in decision making
- At Child Study Team (CST) meetings, serves as a resource for teachers
