REPORTS TO : Superintendent
FLSA: Exempt Administrative
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Contract will be prorated based on actual start date. A full contract for this position is 240 days, with benefits as specified in employee contract.
BEGINNING: July 1, 2025
LOCATION: Service Center
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with multiple district departments and project management preferred.
- Administrative or supervisory experience is required.
- Arkansas educator’s license required with district administration.
- Ed.S. or Doctorate degree with experience in public education is preferred.
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction, both in theory and in practical application
- Knowledge of the State accountability system and standardized testing
- Knowledge of the selection, training, and supervision of personnel
- Knowledge of school employment law and hearing procedures
- Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
- Some travel will be required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Serves as the Superintendent's designee.
- Supervises district operations.
- Responds to news media inquiries as appropriate.
- Gives guidance, planning and direction to the construction of school buildings and facilities in the Fort Smith School District.
- Demonstrates knowledge of school and district organization, operations, policies, and objectives.
- Demonstrates strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
- Assists in the development of district policies.
- Serves as supervisor and consultant to all administrative personnel including principals on all administrative and or managerial matters.
- Schedules and chairs leadership meetings and Service Center staff meetings.
- Supervises the preparation of state and federal reports.
- Advises the Superintendent as a member of the Executive Cabinet.
- Conducts in-service trainings to develop district staff regarding evaluation, state and federal law, rules and regulations.
- Ensures campuses comply with state, federal, and school board policies and laws.
- Directs the development and maintenance of such records and reports as are necessary for the Superintendent to keep the Board of Education informed of the district’s progress and future plans.
- Develops and implement procedures to ensure that employees are kept well informed of personnel policies, procedures, and programs that affect them.
- Ensures that the employee handbook is updated annually.
- Articulates the district’s mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
- Ensures that district operations contribute to the attainment of district goals and objectives.
- Knows and implements the policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the area assigned.
- Participates in professional development activities to maintain current knowledge of public relations, regulations, and practices.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible and serve as a role model for all district staff.
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Possess the physical stamina and capacity to carry out district requirements.
- Participate in professional conferences, in-service sessions, etc. to keep abreast of current practices.
- Operate the programs in accordance with Federal and State Department guidelines and local Board of Education regulations and policies.
- Maintains prompt and regular attendance and demonstrates the ability to maintain positive professional working relationships with others.
- Evaluates and supervises departmental staff.
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Serve on committees as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Must have the ability to lift at least 40 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to endure prolonged standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, occasional reaching above the head or the shoulders, bending, squatting.
