FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Head Women's Basketball Coach.
Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Women's Basketball Coach responsibilities include, but are not limited to, organization, direction and administration as well as recruitment and retention of student-athletes at a NCAA Division II institution. This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Provide organization, direction, and administration of Women's Basketball Program
- Identify and recruit academically and athletically talented student-athletes for the program
- Coach/Teach athletes and oversee day-to-day program responsibilities
- Maintain a competitive and successful program
- Comply with NCAA/SIAC rules and regulations and support NCAA Division II/SIAC Philosophy and Mission
- Provide a positive experience to the student-athlete
- Promote your program (on campus, in the community, outside the community - speeches to local organizations, player volunteer work, camps, etc.)
- Attain/Maintain CPR/AED certification
- Assist with playoffs (if hosting)
- Professional Development - annually attend clinics or do other things to better your coaching ability
- Implement and develop fundraising strategies to support annual operating budget
- Represent the University on and off the field in a positive fashion. Maintain appropriate relationships and communicate appropriately with Alumni, SA's, Team, Coaching Staff, Community, and SIAC.
- Other duties as assigned by Athletic Director.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Strong, effective administrative, leadership, management and communication skills
- Excellent organizational ability, high level of accuracy, attention to detail
- Able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and with minimal supervision.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office Word Pro, Excel, PowerPoint
- Enjoy working with college students
- Travel, including overnight and/or weekend
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Travel required during playing season and recruitment season
- Evenings, weekends during playing season and recruitment season
- Working outdoors
- Must be able to stand or walk for an extended period of time
- Lift or carry up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to bend, squat, kneel, reach overhead, lift overhead
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
- Coaching and/or playing experience at the collegiate level
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree
