FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Transportation and Safety Coordinator.

Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the oversight and coordination of university vehicle and equipment maintenance activities. Schedules and coordinates the maintenance of university vehicles and equipment. Supervises two bus drivers, serves as back-up bus driver, and assists with campus safety and health activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides outstanding customer service to operating departments via expert assistance and support for fleet service functions.
  • Directs and oversees the use of the University's vehicles and equipment and directs improvement implementations.
  • Ensures the campus acquires and maintains an inventory of vehicles available for employee and team travel, and responsible for all policies and procedure development related to a vehicle motor pool in compliance with the DOAS.
  • Serves as the University liaison with the State of Georgia (DOAS) Transportation unit to procure or surplus vehicles for fleet.
  • Maintain knowledge of Board of Regents policies and procedures, federal, state and local laws and regulations related to risk management, safety, and transportation.
  • Performs ongoing analysis for operational decisions.
  • Serves as primary database administrator for computerized maintenance management software and fuel access systems.
  • Supports operating departments by serving as subject matter expert and primary action person for new vehicle in processing and old vehicle out processing through approved surplus methods.
  • Facilitates the collision repair process by collecting police reports, initiating claims, creating work orders, coordinating repairs, and returning completed vehicles to user departments.
  • Assist in the design of busing routes w/ maps & lists for various bus routes for student.
  • Manage transportation shuttle and third-party fleet management contracts and invoices to issue requisitions for service and perform service validation.
  • Provide vehicle and golf cart trainings as outlined by DOAS to the campus community.
  • Track and maintain a process to ensure the maintenance on vehicles are up to date.
  • Assist in the development of shuttle schedules, routes, and transfer points for students and for special events.
  • Supervise two bus drivers.
  • Serve Act as backup shuttle driver in the event the primary driver is not available.
  • Conform to all state laws and regulations regarding DOT/FMSCA.
  • Assist Risk Management with campus safety and health activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned for efficient operation of the transportation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED; bachelor's in business field preferred.
  • Three (3) years of experience in clerical, bookkeeping, or accounting; fleet/vehicle related experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must be attentive to detail and have a strong customer orientation.
  • 2 Year Driving experience
  • CDL License with P Endorsement within 1 year of hire
  • Must be able pass yearly Georgia Department of Transportation (GA DOT) physical exam every 2 years.
  • Must successfully complete an MVR and criminal background.
  • Must be able to maintain flexibility and openness to changing work priorities and conditions; simultaneously managing multiple tasks/projects.
  • Ability to work weekends and flexible hours.
  • Must be able to work well with people, public, vendors, community organizations, and staff.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Requires willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and beyond normal working hours as schedule requires.
  • Physical requirements: able to lift 50 pounds; frequent bending, climbing, driving, lifting; mobility to sit, walk, or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Work is performed both in a climate-controlled environment (indoors) and outdoors.
