Upper School History Teacher
Fort Worth Country Day School seeks an enthusiastic professional to serve as an Upper School History Teacher beginning with the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate will be energized by working with Upper School-aged students, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, have classroom management skills that emphasize mutual respect and positive reinforcement, and will participate fully in the life of the School. Fort Worth Country Day expects its faculty to work effectively within its division and the curricular departments. Upper School faculty members will also serve as an advisor to a group of students. Interested candidates will be encouraged to interview with our athletic director about coaching positions available.
There are three core courses taught within the History department’s curriculum in the Upper School.
- The 9th-grade curriculum of World History covers the Early Modern era to the present.
- The 10th-grade curriculum of American Government and Civics surveys constitutional policies and governmental decision-making.
- The 11th-grade curriculum of United States History, both Advanced Placement and regulars, covers Colonial America to the present.
- AP Macro, AP Psychology, and AP Comparative Government are offered for 11th and 12th grade, as well as three other elective courses, dependent upon student demand and teacher interest.
- In all cases, the Upper School History Teacher will aim to offer a strong course of study in History that develops growth-minded students, builds curiosity, and increases the skills of reasoning and communication necessary for achieving global competencies.
Reporting to the Upper School Division Head, other responsibilities and characteristics include, but are not limited to:
- Represents the School in a favorable manner
- Has a passion for the subject matter, for teaching, and aims to research new theories and methods within both History/Government and teaching in general
- Creates respectful classroom environments where civil discussions can thrive
- Is reflective and collaborates with colleagues so that students can engage with complex topics
- Frames teaching around inquiry
- Can demonstrate commitment to student success by offering creative solutions to help students of various needs
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree or higher, though an advanced degree is preferred
- Experience as a teacher of World History and World Religions is preferred
- Experience in both Upper School and independent school education is also preferred
