Fort Worth ISD is seeking results-driven assistant principals to support principals in leading a school community in alignment with our district’s and commitment to academic excellence. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Effective Instruction

  • Supports the implementation of highly effective routines, instructional strategies, and experiences for all students across all core content areas.
  • Ensures daily demonstrations of student learning inform data-driven instruction and reinforce high-quality Tier 1 teaching practices to assess student mastery of state standards.
  • Collects, analyzes, and monitors multiple forms of data to inform instruction and intervention decisions and maximize growth and achievement for all student groups.
  • Ensures the implementation of high-quality, effective classroom instructional strategies that improve performance of all students and student groups, ensuring equity and eliminating achievement gaps.
  • Leverages resources effectively to respond in a timely manner to all students’ needs.
  • Ensures fidelity to high-quality instructional materials by promoting teacher lesson internalization and alignment with state standards, assessments, and district curricula.
  • Reinforces rigorous expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies and classroom management.
  • Leads Professional Learning Communities (PLC) as a key member of the instructional leadership team that sustain positive relationships with teachers and administrators while fostering a team culture of open sharing, risk taking and shared leadership, to increase student achievement for all student groups.
  • In high schools, assists in increasing graduation rates and ensures readiness for post-secondary success.

  • Effective, Well-Supported Teachers

  • Conducts rigorous and calibrated observations.
  • Observes employee performance regularly, records observations, and conducts evaluation conferences; serves as second appraiser as needed for designated teacher appraisal system.
  • Assists principal in recruiting, selecting, placing, mentoring, and retaining diverse and highly effective teachers and staff.
  • Coaches and develops teachers and staff, by providing actionable feedback to improve the quality of instruction.
  • Provides support and real-time coaching to promote instructional improvement.
  • School Organizational Leadership, Planning, and Improvement

  • Assists the principal in creating a high-performing, skilled instructional leadership team through real-time coaching, observations, and professional development opportunities to increase student achievement and attendance.
  • Strategically plans and ensures campus operations and resources promote the academic success and well-being of each student.
  • Adheres to and applies the Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
  • Models personal commitment to developing self and others.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Manages resources (people, financial, equipment) effectively to support the organizational goals.
  • Takes a leadership role in planning activities, outlines and tracks clear goals, tracks targets and strategies to ensure attainment of the school’s mission and goals that improves teacher effectiveness and outcomes.
  • Participates in development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
  • Helps principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain records, and track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
  • Collaborates with district staff to implement policies, and advocates for the needs of district students and staff.

  • Collaborates with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
  • Supports the principal in implementing a shared vision and culture of collective responsibility with high expectations for staff and students.
  • Ensures that school rules are uniformly applied, and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable, in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook.
  • Applies a variety of restorative student discipline techniques to meet the behavior needs of individual students.
  • Assists with developing strategies to proactively provide and coordinate student support services.
  • Demonstrates awareness of school-community needs, and initiates activities to meet those needs using appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Administration, Fiscal, and Facilities Management

  • Oversees campus operations in principal’s absence.
  • Supports the principal with fiscal oversight of all campus budgets, including campus and student activity funds as directed.
  • Takes a leadership role in planning and scheduling of daily school activities, including the development of master and class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
  • Assists with requisitions, supplies, textbooks, and equipment; monitors and maintains inventory in accordance with district procedures.
  • Coordinates operational support services such as transportation, custodial, and cafeteria to best meet campus needs.
  • Complies with district policies, state and federal laws, and regulations affecting schools.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provides clear expectations of performance, supervises and conducts rigorous, calibrated evaluations using multiple data sources of professional staff as assigned by the school principal.
  • Directs the work of teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical staff, and others as assigned.

  • Other Duties as Assigned

  • Performs all job-related duties as assigned and in accordance with Board rules, policies and regulations. All employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation, and staff supervision.
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of elementary and / or secondary school evidence-based curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Knowledge of federal and state guidelines and district policies and procedures regarding special population students’ services and programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of evidence-based literacy instruction.
  • Knowledge of state college, career, and military readiness (CCMR) standards and requirements
  • Skill in judgment and creativity in decision-making; considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Skill in monitoring / assessing the performance of self, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Skill in public relations, communications, and interpersonal relations.
  • Ability to consider academic, social, and emotional needs of students in making decisions about academic settings and accommodations for individual students.
  • Ability to differentiate instructional support for experienced and new teachers.
  • Ability to develop and implement plans in all areas of the instructional program.
  • Ability to plan and implement projects that support the FWISD Strategic Plan.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply rules, policies, and procedures relating to district operations.
  • Ability to use qualitative and quantitative data to make decisions about teaching and learning including student and teacher assessment.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and implement effective time management techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with students, parents, staff, community, and stakeholders in a multi-ethnic educational environment.

  • Travel Requirements

  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
  • Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards

  • Tools / Equipment Used : Standard office and classroom equipment, including Promethean Board, computer and peripherals.
  • Posture : Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing / pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion : Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
  • Lifting : Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
  • Environment : Works in an office setting; works irregular and / or prolonged hours; works inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; occasional districtwide and statewide travel.
  • Attendance : Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
  • Mental Demands : Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
  • Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Education : Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university required. Degree in School Administration preferred.
  • Certification / License :  Valid Texas Mid-Management or Principal Certification required for in-state applicants Out of state applicants must be currently certified from another state, attach a copy of your valid certification and become Texas Certified prior to being hired. T-TESS and T-PESS Certification required if hired
  • Experience :  3 years successful teaching experience required. Experience as an Instructional Coach, Teacher Leader, or Dean of Instruction preferred. Experience in inner-city schools with diverse student populations.
  • Language : Bilingual (English / Spanish) preferred in some settings.
