What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bilingual Tester- Student Placement Center (Full-Time) position at Fort Worth ISD?
Position Purpose
Registers new students to the District who commonly speak or hear a language other than English; assesses students in grades PK-12 using a state mandated language proficiency assessment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Communicates to parents / students, procedures and processes for registration and program placement.
Assists parents / students with the registration process, including immunization records, and lunch applications.
Assesses students new to the District who speak a language other than English (oral and written) and enters initial enrollment data on students into District student system.
Provides information on the Bilingual / ESL programs available to parents.
Attends District school PK Roundups to assess and register new students who speak a language other than English.
Assists with parent meetings and events held for emergent bilingual students.
Provides school bus route information for newcomer program students.
Assist schools with on-site assessments for parents with no means of transportation.
Updates language proficiency assessment on emergent bilingual students required by the state to ensure best decision-making on placement.
Updates records on emergent bilingual students to provide accurate data for local and federal reporting.
Makes home visits related to program placement, school performance, and other school related matters.
Safety
Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of office procedures and of spelling, grammar, punctuation, and arithmetic.
Knowledge of records administration and maintenance techniques and procedures.
Knowledge of District policies, procedures, and regulations.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding bilingual education and bilingual students.
Knowledge of FWISD residency requirements and FWISD boundaries.
Skill in data entry with minimal errors.
Skill in providing exceptional service to both internal and external customers.
Skill in interpersonal relationships, including using tact, patience, and courtesy.
Skill in written and oral communication skills including ability to interact with and influence all levels of central office and campus staff as well as parents.
Skill in operating applicable software including email and word processing to status assignments.
Ability to provide information and assist office personnel, parents and students related to District programs and activities.
Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Tools / Equipment Used : Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals.
Motion : Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
Lifting : Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
Environment : Works in an office setting; may require occasional irregular and / or prolonged hours.
Attendance : Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
Mental Demands : Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Education : Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required.
Certification / License : None.
Experience : 1 year office or clerical experience such as receptionist, typing, filing, scheduling, and processing mail required.
Language : Bilingual (English / Spanish) working proficiency preferred in some settings.
