Position Purpose
Supervises SPC staff in daily operation and assists in ensuring that effective and efficient outreach services are delivered to students who speak a language other than English.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Ensures students new to the District who speak a language other than English are assessed, using Language Assessment System [LAS] (oral and written) in a timely manner; administers and scores tests when necessary.
Oversees registration process to see that parents / students are provided with additional services, such as screening immunization records, notary services, and completion of lunch applications.
Serves as a liaison to parents, office personnel, Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) Chairpersons, and other District personnel.
Ensures parents receive information on the benefits of Bilingual / ESL programs and other services offered by SPC for parents / students who speak a language other than English.
Organizes established procedures on the maintenance of student files.
Verifies initial student enrollment data entered into the District student system for local and federal reporting.
Gathers districtwide LPAC documentation and stores it as required by the state.
Assists with the hiring and training of SPC staff on office procedures including data processes.
Prepares & schedules for SPC staff to assess and register on-site students, including district-wide PK Roundups and state assessments.
Collaborates with other departments (Technology, Assessment, Special Education, Bilingual, and Transportation) to stay up-to-date on data, assessments, placement, and other services for English Language Learners (ELLs).
Assists the ELL Home Liaison Counselor with events held for ELLs and parents.
Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive communication with staff and the general public.
Safety
Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff, and makes recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.

Skill working with a diverse, urban population, preferably focused on families.
Skill in demonstrating multicultural experiences and experience with second language learners.

Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Tools / Equipment Used : Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals.
Posture : Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing / pulling, and twisting.
Motion : Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
Lifting : Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
Environment : Works in an office setting; may require occasional irregular and / or prolonged hours.
Attendance : Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
Mental Demands : Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Education : Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university required; coursework in related field preferred.
Certification / License : None.
Experience : 2-5 years’ supervisory experience, working with special populations preferred.
Language : Bilingual (English / Spanish) working proficiency preferred in some settings.
