Summary
This position will work with the Roadway Group throughout the design and construction process, adapting plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs. This position will work directly under the supervision of the Roadway Group Leader.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Independently applies extensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.
- Uses advanced techniques in the modification or extension of theories and practices of sciences and disciplines to complete assignments
- Works in a team environment to deliver a range of transportation and civil design projects
- Able to take direction from Project/Task lead and complete tasks effectively and efficiently.
- Able to independently identify and solve problems related to projects and/or work flow.
- Directs junior engineers, designers, and CADD technicians to successfully execute and deliver project work.
- Mentor and train junior engineers as needed.
- Design various elements of transportation projects including but not limited to geometric layouts (horizontal/vertical), typical sections, hydrological/hydraulic determinations and calculations.
- Prepares construction documents related to transportation projects including but not limited to construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, design reports, and hydraulic reports.
- Provide QA-QC for plans: traffic, utilities, drainage, plan prep, quantities and cost estimating
- Understands and adheres to assigned phase and task schedules and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of project
- Prepares or reviews scopes, budgets, and schedules for transportation/civil projects.
- Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or programs.
- Attends project meetings and able to communicate/coordinate with clients/contractors clearly and effectively.
Qualifications
- 3 years’ experience
- Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree from an ABET accredited university.
- Current Professional Engineer License or Engineer Intern with ability to acquire licensure within 12 months.
- Strong technical background. Proficient with Civil 3D and/or MicroStation. Experience with LADOTD’s HYDR2009, Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis, and Microsoft Office preferred.
- Familiar with applicable standards related to transportation projects including but not limited to LADOTD Road Design Procedures and Details Manual, LADOTD Standard Specifications for Roads and Bridges Manual (2016), LADOTD Hydraulics Manual (2011), Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways (2009), AASHTO A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets (2018), and AASHTO Roadside Design Guide (2011).
- Experienced in LADOTD design methods, plan preparation, standards, and specifications.
- Proven leadership, communication, mentoring and client liaison skills.
