POSITION PURPOSE

Responsible for reviewing loan applications for accuracy and integrity based on Credit Union’s policy and procedure. Provides the initial evaluation of the application and assist with documenting required verifiable information. Responsible for coding, posting, and preparing all documents necessary for closing consumer loans including secured, unsecured, and home equity loans. Mails loan paperwork, distributes loans to branches, and coordinates closings with branch personnel. Types and handles miscellaneous paperwork including denial letters. Maintains files and answers and directs telephone calls. Provides professional service to members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

Assumes responsibility for providing effective administrative support for all phases of loan processing activities and promotions.

  • Review loan requests, noting pertinent information to assist with approval or denial based on established guidelines.
  • Perform final quality control of pending loan applications. Quality control may require communicating with branches and members for follow-up on missing / required information.
  • Maintain department standards to ensure appropriate turn-around time for loan decisions and funding.
  • Corresponds with member via e-mail, phone, or mail to follow up on non-funded loan requests.
  • Actively cross sell credit union products and services based on member needs that are obtained from a review of the member’s account and credit reports.
  • Prepares paperwork for loan applications. Runs reports, retrieves credit ratings, reviews files, and works up applications.
  • Performs coding and posting functions and prepares all necessary documents for closing of consumer loans. Coordinates loan closings with branches. Closes loans as necessary
  • Performs processing of all home equity loans. Responsible for review of title opinion and related paperwork. Creates required home equity loan documents and disclosures. Distributes loan paperwork to branches and appropriate personnel. Reviews finalized documents for accuracy and performs necessary lien recording.
  • Assists with indirect loan processing to include reporting, file assignment, claims, and ancillary refunds.
  • Types and mails denial letters and related correspondence.
  • Coordinates lien filing and release with branches and third-party vendors. Actively works exception reporting to ensure accurate and timely lien filing to protect credit union interests.
  • Processes loan file maintenance and transaction adjustments
  • Reviews and prepares for scanning loan file maintenance requests.
  • Receives and screens telephone calls. Answers routine questions or directs them to appropriate personnel. Records and relays messages.
  • Completes loan processing duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.

Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective and professional business relationships with members and external contacts.

  • Resolves (or refers) requests and problems promptly and courteously. Answers member questions pertaining to promotions, loans, balances, and payoffs. Assists walk-ins.
  • Keeps members properly informed of Credit Union policies and procedures.
  • Maintains and conveys the Credit Union’s professional reputation.
  • Participates in community and civic events to promote awareness of the Credit Union in the community.
  • Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective coordination and communication with area personnel and management.

  • Completes assigned paperwork for Consumer Loan Manager and Loan Officers. Completes records and reports promptly and accurately.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, manages (coaches / counsels), and provides directives to staff including monitoring goals, objectives, managing day-to-day operational activities and performing annual performance reviews.
  • Supports and assists area personnel as needed.
  • Maintains departmental files.
  • Attends and participates in meetings and trainings and committees as required.
  • Satisfactorily completes all required compliance training and complies with all regulations which apply within the scope of the position to include Bank Secrecy Act compliance.
  • Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
  • Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.

  • Performs miscellaneous clerical functions as needed.
  • Ensures that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
  • Replaces area personnel as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

  • Records, reports, and related documents are accurate, current, and submitted on time.
  • Files are accurate and up to date.
  • Good business relations exist with members. Problems and questions are courteously and promptly resolved or referred.
  • Good working relationships and coordination exist with area personnel and with management. Assistance and support are provided as needed. Management is properly informed.
  • Loan processing functions are completed in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • The Credit Union’s professional reputation is maintained and conveyed.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education / Certification :

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience Required :

  • One year of experience with loan processing / origination.
  • Skills / Abilities :

  • Able to accurately assess the cultural environment, exhibiting emotional intelligence and appropriate sensitivity while maintaining individuality and authenticity.
  • Preference for working in organizations that place priority on personal humility, diversity, inclusion, teamwork, and collaboration.
  • Strong typing and data entry skills

  • Able to use a PC, and related software, and standard office equipment.

  • Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally. (Almost all office jobs.)

  • Ability to perform basic math skills and use decimals to compute ratios and percentages and draw and interpret graphs.

  • Ability to use passive vocabulary of 5-6,000 words; read at a slow rate; and define unfamiliar words in dictionaries for meaning, spelling, and pronunciation.
  • Ability to write complex sentences, using proper punctuation, adjectives, and adverbs.
