We are seeking an experienced Histology Technician (HT) to join the VA White River Junction Hospital. This role involves performing a variety of laboratory tasks related to the preparation, processing, and analysis of tissue specimens. You will be responsible for grossing, embedding, cutting, staining, and cover-slipping tissues, as well as preparing special stains upon pathologist request. You will also assist pathologists in surgical procedures, frozen sections, and potentially autopsies. Additionally, the Histology Technician ensures patient safety, maintains compliance with documentation standards, and delivers high-quality patient-centered care.

WORK SCHEDULE: Various shifts are available, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Employees may be required to work overtime, but on-call or standby duties are not required.
COMPENSATION: $29.00 -$32.00 per hour

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Responsible for grossing tissue specimens, accessioning them into the computer system, embedding, cutting, staining, and cover-slipping tissue.
Prepare special stains for tissue as requested by pathologists.
Assist pathologists in surgical procedures, frozen sections, and possibly autopsies.
Process specimens using equipment, instruments, or techniques to prepare them for specific analysis.
Maintain physical conditions of specimens to ensure their integrity and viability.
Serve as a back-up morgue assistant, providing basic assistance to pathologists during autopsies, including identification, setup, general assistance, body closure, and cleanup.
Positively identify patients before sample collection and verify samples before testing or aliquoting.
Safeguard both electronic and paper patient information.
Independently test, evaluate, document, and report patient testing and Quality Control (QC).
Identify, document, and resolve any collection, processing, testing, or reporting issues.
Ensure patient-centered care and professional service delivery to avoid complaints from stakeholders and customers.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
Education & Certifications:
Bachelor's degree required.
Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years of recent Histology and Cytology experience.
Skills and Abilities:
Technical proficiency in histology and cytology procedures.
Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently.
Strong attention to detail and adherence to laboratory safety protocols.
Effective communication skills to interact with pathologists and healthcare professionals.
Knowledge of tissue processing techniques and laboratory best practices.
