Job Title: Fortuna Union High School District
Director of Student Services
Salary: Placement on the Administrative Salary Schedule $89,982-$118,735,
depending on experience
Position Overview: Under the general direction of the Superintendent, the Director of Student Services is
responsible for providing leadership, communication, and support to administrative site
personnel in the operation and compliance of Special Education programs and services
in conformance with District and State objectives. This position also oversees
compliance with Section 504, Differentiated Assistance, and professional development
for staff. The Director communicates with staff, the public, and other districts; ensures
compliance with district, state, and federal regulations; and serves as a resource to
school personnel, the Board, and other districts.
Job Duties: • Assists and directs site administrators in the areas of Special Education
instruction, discipline, process, and procedures to ensure compliance with State
and Federal laws and regulations.
- Oversees and ensures compliance with Section 504, including training and
support for site personnel in the implementation of 504 plans.
- Coordinates and facilitates compliance with Title IX, including the development
of educational programs on discrimination and harassment prevention, and
supervision of investigations and resolutions.
- Represents the district at county and state meetings regarding Special Education.
- Serves as the district Transition Partnership Program (TPP) Administrator.
- Develops and implements professional development programs for guidance,
health services, special education, and general education instructional personnel.
- Supervises psychologists, speech therapists, nurses, instructional aides, and
other IEP service providers.
- Monitors and conducts site pre-planning and IEP meetings in accordance with
federal and state regulations and procedures when necessary.
- Addresses parent concerns and questions about Special Education programs or
related issues.
- Facilitates meetings and processes to implement and maintain programs and
services that achieve district objectives.
- Supervises, coordinates, and implements child welfare and attendance services,
including admissions, suspensions, expulsions, student transfers, permits, and
residency verification.
- Provides support and training to site administrative teams regarding
standardized interventions for student discipline, attendance, and academics.
- Administers formal reprimands, expulsions, and appeals.
- Supports school nurses and coordinates medical services.
- Coordinates student support services with outside agencies such as Talent
Search, CalSoap, and Upward Bound.
- Coordinates counseling services and fosters collaboration among academic and
student assistance counselors.
- Supports Differentiated Assistance initiatives to ensure student achievement and
school improvement efforts align with district and state goals.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Experience, • Skills in program management, interpersonal communication, and leadership.
Knowledge, and • Knowledge of curriculum, public law, education codes, and district policies
Abilities: related to Special Education and student services.
- Ability to provide direction and make independent judgments.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills with individuals of varied cultural and
educational backgrounds.
- Experience supervising and working collaboratively with others.
Minimum • Valid California teaching credential or California Administrative Credential
Qualifications: • Master’s Degree desirable.
- Minimum of five years of experience in regular education, special education,
or psychological services.
- Administrative experience preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and human relations skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, district personnel, members of
the public, and representatives from local, state, and federal agencies.
- A valid California driver’s license, TB test clearance, and California
Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
